Old historic towns and horse and carriage rides compliment each other so well! These two things have the ability to mentally transport me to a different age and time!
As we explored the streets, we encountered this announcement:
"Jefferson Carriage Company, Thursday.-Saturday 12 noon-9pm; Sunday 2pm and on. Carriage Tours start here every 1/2 hour or call for reservations. 903-399-8882"
A smart looking horse and wagon were waiting to take visitors for a walk about town. I can't think of a better way to become acquainted with Jefferson!
FYI: Reservations should be made ahead of time when possible.
Just as we were about to wrap up our visit to Jefferson, the gentleman operating this carriage gently nudged us into taking a ride through town. So off we went with dapper Mr. Tom and his buff colored horse, Liza Jane.
As we made our way around Jefferson, we were treated to a history of the town and it's historic structures.
We clopped along, passing strikingly beautiful B&B's and lovingly restored homes, traveling the delightfully shady streets of Jefferson.
At one point, Mr. Tom pointed out a Magnolia tree planted near the center of town which came from seeds of a White House tree courtesy of Lady Bird Johnson. A carriage ride was the perfect ending to our getaway weekend!
Mr. Tom and Liza Jane. Jefferson, Texas carriage rides are the best. Mr. Tom looks very vintage himself which just adds to the great tour he gave my husband and myself of Jefferson, Texas. Thanks again, Mr. Tom and Liza Jane!
