Favorite thing: For anyone wanting an "musication/vacation" this year, the Hill Country Acoustic Music Camp offers a spectacular deal - $325.00 per person for five days of instruction in either fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, voice, dobro, banjo. The instructors are seasoned veterans and come from as far away as D.C.
You can literally walk in not knowing how to play an instrument and go home having learned the technique. For those with experience, you'll pick up additional ways to improve.
The Schreiner University in Kerrville offers lodging package, or there are a number of hotels, RV and campgrounds in the area.

Special note: this annual camp is running at the same time as the Kerrville Folk Festival, so you can really take in a lot of music this year!
Fondest memory: Kerrville is easily accessible to San Antonio (60 miles nw) and about 100 miles sw of Austin. Right off I-10. Kerrville is a friendly community of 20,000+ and what is special about this small city is it has so much to do - great restaurants along the Guadalupe River, lots of arts influence from galleries to museums to theatre, and the scenic natural setting of hills and water.

Favorite thing: Visit the Cowboy museum and take time to walk at least part of the Guadalope river valley.
Fondest memory: The people were incredibly friendly and willing to help you. They made me feel welcome and the hightest recommendation is that when I see texas mentioned on the news i get a lump in my throat and a deep wish to return there.
