This just blew me away! Here we are in a Texas' hill country town of 20,000 people and they have this performing arts center. Amazing. Furthermore, they have their own orchestra - the Hill Country Symphony, choir - the Hill Country Chorale, present chamber music concerts and live theatre. Further reading lead me to understand the town also is home...more

My family and I stopped in Kerrville, TX on our way back to Sierra Vista from San Antonio. It was the first place we found a Cracker Barrel close to the highway. I love Cracker Barrels because of the country style meals they prepare; especially the breakfast. It was a cold morning and snow was falling. Having left our hotel without breakfast, I was...more
When I asked my hotel receptionist for the best Mexican restaurant in Kerrville she answered with no hesitation: Acapulco! The restaurant was full of diners, who all looked happy and cheerful. I ordered the Steak Ranchero ($ 13.50), which consisted of a charcoal broiled 11 oz. strip steak topped with ranchero sauce and cheddar cheese, served with...more

Car is the best method of getting around. I flew into Dallas/Fort Worth and drove down but you may consider flying from Dallas as it was very inexpensive and saved a lot of time and tiredness
Again get around by car, local transport is just not there as far as I could see.
This fine art gallery caught our attention with its size and variety of genre and styles represented. There were a number of objects in this store we would have loved to bring home with us, but our budget on this trip was shoestring. I wish I had the name for this shop; I've searched the web, including yellow pages, and can't come up with it. If...more

Tipping is as usually for the states around 15-20% If you are unsure tip the total of the tax on your bill.
Texans are very proud of their state. It is appreciated if you show the same respect and I have found they are more than happy to tell you the history etc.
IF you like the New York "in your face" attitude, visit ArrowHead Gun Shop and ask for the owner Jerry and he'll be sure to be RUDE to you. Not your typical Texas friendliness but don't let that turn you off, go to Wal Mart for ALL your HUNTING needs. They are friendly and the prices are not over inflated.
Excuse the vagueness of the locations but it is well worth travell around to the smaller towns around Kerrville...there you will find gift and goodies that cant be found in kerrville itself. Also again not remembering the exact location..have a hunt for the farm which is a few miles outside kerrville which has miniatures built of things like stonehenge.
For anyone wanting an "musication/vacation" this year, the Hill Country Acoustic Music Camp offers a spectacular deal - $325.00 per person for five days of instruction in either fiddle, guitar, hammered dulcimer, mountain dulcimer, voice, dobro, banjo. The instructors are seasoned veterans and come from as far away as D.C. You can literally walk in...more
Visit the Cowboy museum and take time to walk at least part of the Guadalope river valley. The people were incredibly friendly and willing to help you. They made me feel welcome and the hightest recommendation is that when I see texas mentioned on the news i get a lump in my throat and a deep wish to return there.more
