Stillhouse Lake, Killeen

The reservoir near Killeen is stillhouse lake. It is a huge lake created by damming a river to provide drinking water. The army corps of engineers was responsible. The lake is a nice place to swim, and very scenic, with it's miles of parks and trails. It is also swampy in many areas, and fairly shallow. Fishing and boating are popular, however there are many submerged trees and brush. I would not reccomending diving in almost all parts of this lake, there is no visiblity and you could get stuck in a tree. Diving schools in Killeen drive to Lake Travis in austin instead. Some big catfish have been found here, one was a world record shovelhead It was over 6 feet long.
