Right across the street from the Judge Roy Bean Center is the Langtry Post Office. Step across there to get your cards and letters postmarked Langtry, Texas. It is also a small general store so you can buy a snack or a cold drink.
The Judge Roy Bean Center also has a nice Cactus Garden you can walk through and enjoy. It has signs to identify what plants you are seeing.
The Opera House is actually just Judge Roy Bean's home. He named it "The Opera House" in an attempt to lure Langtry here to perform. She did not visit the town, however, until after Bean's death.
Just 8 miles east of Langtry, Highway 90 crosses the Pecos River. Don't just speed past it! There are wide spaces along the side of the road where you can pull over and explore. There's also a scenic overlook, slow down and look for the signs! The views are pretty dramatic, especially after cruising around monotonous desert for hours.
From the Roy Bean Visitor's Center, follow Torres Avenue to its end. Sounds easy, but before you know it you'll be descending down the side of a cliff on loose gravel! Eventually you'll hit the end where there's a loop to turn around and a beautiful scenic overlook. Between you and the cliff across the way flows the Rio Grande.
