Balloon Fest
  • Tip Rating:
  • Buffalo Springs Lake held a balloon fest while I lived there. It was pretty cool seeing the initial lift-off of balloons, and then later seeing them touch the lake. I believe this is an annual event, so please check with Lubbock Chamber of Commerce or the like.

  • Tip Rating:
  • PRARIE DOGS? OK I HAVE SEEN TWO OR THREE PAGES THAT HAVE THE PRARIE DOG TOWN LISTED AS A MUST SEE ACTIVITY? GRANTED NOT EVERYONE GETS TO SEE THESE ON A REGULAR BASIS,,,, BUT COME ON? HOW FUN CAN IT BE TO STAND AROUND STARING AT RODENTS? IF YOU REALLY WANT TO SEE SOME TEXAS WILDLIFE GO TO THE PALO DURO CANYON (AND IF YOU MUST SEE PRARIE DOGS THEY HAVE SOME THERE TOO!). LUBBOCKS BEST ASSET IS IT'S PEOPLE, THERE IS NOT A FRIENDLIER PLACE ON THE PLANET, IN MY HUMBLE OPINION. SO GET OUT, INTERACT! (WITH HUMANS, NOT RODENTS). THE UNIVERSITY HAS ABOUT A THOUSAND DIFFERENT MUSEUMS AND EXHIBITS, SEE THEM. THERE ARE ALSO AROUND 15 OR 20 SMALL COMMUNITIES IN THE AREA THAT HAVE A TON OF LIBRARIES AND MUSEUMS AS WELL.
HOME OF BUDDY HOLLY!!!! WHAT MORE CAN YOU WANT?

Buddy Holly Center- A world class museum containing personal posessions of the famous entertainer. It is also dedicated to all West Texas musicians who have contributed so much to all types of music that we enjoy today. The Center also houses the Lubbock Art Alliance and features many types of art on exhibit.

Ranching Heritage Center- A unique collection of authentic buildings and dwellings from the 1800's to early 1900's which have been restored and preserved. At times, volunteers dress in period garb and give tours. Christmas is the best time to see this!

Museum at Texas Tech- Many types of art on exhibit, from dinosaurs to bronze sculpture.

Texas Tech University- A beuatiful campus built in the Spanish Rennaisance architectural style. Home of the Texas Tech Red Raiders & Lady Raiders!

Llano Esticado Windery- Internationally award winning wines. Tours and tastings available.

The Depot District- Many quaint shops, theaters and pubs make it a pleasant place to visit, shop and dine.

Science Spectrum & Omnimax Theater- Interesting hands-on science exhibits which change frequently. Omnimax theater has a huge domed screen that takes you into the action!

  • Tip Rating:
  • Go and see the Ranching Heritage Center. It is great!
There are lots of neat old buildings that portray the history of Lubbock and of life on ranches. There are several different sizes of ranch homes. My own ancestors lived in a dugout and there is even a dug out at the Ranch Heritage Center.

    Walk of Fame
For a town its size, Lubbock has bred a lot of talent! This is a nifty place to stroll around for a few minutes, if not just to take your picture next to Lubbock's most famous landmark.

Located on the eastern edge of town, the city's cemetery was designated a Texas Historic Cemetery in 2002. Once you enter, turn right. Buddy Holly's grave is on the left a short distance, there are small signs that will point you along.
