Motley Cemetery is on the grounds of Eastfield College. Zachariah and Mary Motley arrived in Mesquite by wagon train from Kentucky in 1856 with their family. They were one of a few families who brought slaves with them. They settled on what is now Eastfield College.

The cemetery is listed on the Texas Historical Register.

    The Foot of G.C. Motley

There are two unusual graves which only contain a body part. One is the Foot of G.C. Motley and the other says “Arm of J.S. Motley 1894”… I don’t know the story behind either of these two cases.

There is a couple of unmarked stones marked ‘Known Only To God’, these are believed to be of slaves.
