Noble Willingham who appeared in more than 30 films including Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, Good Morning, Vietnam, and played Tim Allen's next door neighbour (whose face was always partially hidden) on Home Improvement was born in Mineola in 1931. He died in Palm Springs January 2004.

On the 3rd Saturday in October, there is the Heritage Arts Festival. There are demonstrations of skills, crafts and the way of life of the early pioneers. Many of the residents dress up in pioneer costume. There are wagon rides through the historic district as well as a parade, story telling and music. All the food for sale is cooked in the traditional pioneer way. You can see demonstrations of soap making, candle making, weaving, spinning and quilting. Admission is free.
Also in October is the Choo Choo Chili & Bean Blast.

Mineola holds a Freedomfest to celebrate July 4th. There is a fireworks display, fun run, volleyball tournament, tennis tournament, dunking booth, horseshoe tournament and bingo. There is also arts and crafts and food stalls as well as live entertainment.

At the end of May, Mineola holds its Annual Classic Horseshoe Tournaments. There is a specific place for this sport on Front Street, Downtown.
Mineola also has May Days which is held the first weekend in May. There is a parade, dance, contests, arts and crafts fair, stage show, food booths, sidewalk sale and an antique car rally.

Ok this is a real local radio station and no two guessing as to what sort of music they play - not my kind of thing but I was amused by their 'handle' as well as their vehicle.
