There are a number of lakes within reach of Mineola, plenty of fishing and outdoor activities.

Lake Hawkins is 20 minutes away, Lake Fork (Bass Fishing Capital of Texas) is 10 minutes.

Lake Holbrook is only 5 minutes outside the City and Lake Quitman is15 minutes North.

This cemetery is just outside of Mineola and was originally knowns as the Big Spring Cemetery. It was the burial ground for the first pioneer settlers of the neighbouring rural community. A lot of the earlier gravesites are unmarked but they include members of the Big Spring Baptist Church, the community school and the Sand Springs Masonic Lodge NO. 364. One of the oldest marked graves is that of a pioneer settler Thomas Ship (1796-1863) who was a early trustee of the cemetery. There are over 1000 graves here.
