Navasota is a town of about 7100 (up 5% since 2000) located near Texas Highway 6 in Southeast Texas. Navasota was established in 1831 as a stagecoach stop. The origin of the name is not certain; but may have derived from an Indian word for "Muddy Water". The Navasota Commercial District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places as are a few of the neat houses in town.

Folks, this is the birthplace of Texas - lots of history. Visit Independence Hall, a replica of the building where the Texas Declaration of Independence was signed in 1836. Look around the township of Washington once the state capitol of Texas. Check out the Barrington Living History Farm with costumed staff and period livestock. Enjoy the Star of the Republic Museum - state of the art facility, housing a library, seasonal exhibits and special events.

Visit Martha's Bloomers, a home and garden experience.
I love this store! Many unique items for your home and garden ranging from antiques to texas stuff to gardening tools and art, I could go on forever! The staff is wonderful in helping you find exactly what you're looking for, and if you're just looking around, that's ok too. From time to time they offer seminars given by visiting gardening experts or their knowlegable staff.

One of the local antique dealers told my wife and I about this place. The decor was minimal, but the chef, owner sure knows how to fry seafood! The breading is very light and no grease, the wait staff (owner's grandson) was very kind and attentative, and the portions were very generous. I would highly recommend this place!
Favorite Dish: I have only been there once. My wife had the grilled shrimp salad and I had the fried shrimp. Both were excellent.
