Guadalupe River State Park
A scenic drive on Hwy 46 brings you to the Guadalupe River State Park. I have not yet experienced this place on a hot summer weekend, but early Spring on a weekend is blissfully serene. There are several choices of wide dirt trails which meander through the trees and lush fields. You may be sharing the trail with horses. There is also a trail that hugs the river and many private picnic places as well as picnic tables scattered throughout the park. Camping is available.
Price for the day is $6 per person (dogs are free!)

Gruene is a small town just outside of New Braunfels. Many people flock there on the weekends in good weather to eat at the Gristmill and to listen to music at Gruene Hall. Gruene Hall is the oldest continually operating dance hall in Texas and is a great place to get that authentic Texas feel if you are from out of town. The Gristmill is right behind Gruene Hall and offers spectacular views of the Guadalupe River. The menu consists of burgers, chicken, fish, salads etc.
The town itself is quaint, with many touristy shops. On Sundays you will encounter many Harley Davidsons, as this is the place many of the bikers end up after rides through the Hill Country.
Austin is the capital of the state of Texas and is a beautiful city surrounded by hills, valleys and lakes which run through the city and is found north of New Braunfels.
More than 100 live music venues offer evening performances making Austin the “Live Music Capital of the World'.
San Marcos lies in Hays County at the edge of the Hill Country, north of New Braunfels. Studies have proven San Marcos to be one of the oldest continuously inhabited sites in North America. The town has gone from a gristmill, sawmill and cotton farming town to quite a modern little city.
Canyon Lake is located in Comal County approximately 12 miles northeast of New Braunfels and 20 miles North of San Antonio. It is one of the deepest lakes in Texas and because of the clarity of the water, it is a popular destination for divers as well as providing all forms of water recreation.
San Antonio is the eighth largest city in the U.S. and the third biggest in Texas, south of San Marcos. The famed River Walk, Tower of the Americas, the Mercado Mexican-style marketplace, theme parks, art museums are well patronised. Of course the Alamo is also here.
Be sure to take a tubing trip...
Be sure to take a tubing trip down the Guadelupe River. Go to Gruene and the folks will direct you to the 'Rockin R' river rafts. Afterward, go into Gruene and shop. Good restaurants 'Adobe Verde' (Mexican)...the Gristmill (Southwestern).. Also take a walking tour and visit the General store and antique shope. Very nice people...very laid back
