by nomorewars When my family and I moved to Texas, back in 2003, we had moved in with my mother-in-law, prior to finding a place of our own. My wife and I were busting our tails in an attempt to readjust to “civilian” life: we had spent the last eight years or so living under the U.S. military’s umbrella. We quickly found that we preferred the pace and overall characteristic of our new lifestyle – it did not take us long to abandon our old ways. After spending a week or so living under my mother-in-law’s roof, she volunteered to watch my children so that my wife and I could spend a night out, alone, although we ended up hanging out with both of my sister-in-laws. We hopped on Interstate 10 and drove east for about an hour or so, to the City of Beaumont, where, after obtaining some rather flawed directions, we attempted to make our way to Crockett Street, the official nightlife capital of the city. Although our mission was anything but simple, we eventually made our way – after spending several minutes driving around the city aimlessly and numerous launches of the F-Bomb, on my part – to our destination. Instantly, I realized that Crockett Street was the city’s “bread and butter”, so to speak: it was highly commercialized, with numerous neon signs, stalls and shops offering various trinkets and memorabilia, and hundreds of people lining the street. We made our way to some bar – a shoddy little dive which lacked individuality and a distinction of some kind from every other bar in the area – at the beginning of the street. Needless to say, I wasn’t very impressed: upon entering the bar I became overwhelmed by the awful stench of stale beer and a tornado of cigarette smoke. I began to gag, violently, so my wife and I abandoned my sister-in-laws and decided to explore the rest of the area. After spending maybe two to three minutes walking around, we stumbled upon Antones, where we found ourselves overtaken by the restful melodies of classical Blues – a staple of the local live music scene. Even though Antones was packed with people, to the point in which mobility had been stunted, I found it to be rather appealing: people were friendly and courteous, generous with their money, and the establishment was…well…it was the complete opposite of the dive where I had gladly left my sister-in-laws. We stayed in Antones for about an hour, dancing to the Blues, and talking with many people from all over Eastern Texas and Western Louisiana -- we made numerous friends for the night, but never stayed in contact; afterwards, we continued on with our exploration of Crockett Street, finding it to be a rather enjoyable place, loaded with great restaurants, delghtfu live music venues, and history. Dallas West End by ATXtraveler In the 1800's one of the founders of Dallas, John Neely Bryan established a trading post on the bluff of the Trinity River with the Caddo Indians. As business grew, so did the West End of Dallas. The West End was the main location for the train station, and as the automobile replaced the train as the main mode of transportation in the US, the West End's commercial area lost signficsant importance. Recently, there has been a major re-vitalizationinitiative which has brought in significant economic development. ** The West End is a Historic District registered with the National Register. ** The West End attracts 7 million people a year. ** 300 businesses in the West End employ over 40,000 people. by keeweechic City Streets This is Fort Worth's greatest multi-venue entertainment complex. There is actually five clubs under one roof! ATLANTIS is a dance club with a nautical-theme featuring hit music from the 70s and 80s. STRAY CATS: has keyboard comedians duelling and audiences participating in singalongs. THE BLUE MONKEY LOUNGE is a karaoke bar. CAGES has the current Top 40 contemporary dance music along with a multi-level dance floor. EASY STREET DELI features a full service bar and coffee drinks. (425 Commerce St.). J&J Blues Bar J&J Blues Bar is tucked away in a little corner of Ft Worth. A well known spot for Blues and R&B fans. Looking more like a large tin shack, inside you will find a cosy atmosphere with table and chairs (with room to move) and a bar. Flashy old neon signs and gaudy advertising add some colour and for conversation, an assortment of bra’s dangle from anything they can find to be draped over. Just the coolest little place. J&J’s hosts numerous well known local and national blues bands including some great legends. (937 Woodward Street, Ft Worth). Leave a Comment Theme: Live Music

by keeweechic If you're expecting to see big hats, steel guitars and fiddles, you will find them here but Dallas also sings the blues, folk, jazz, rock and roll and heavy metal. There are comedy clubs, piano bars and nightclubs. The West End is a great place to hang out, sit outside, have a drink and listen to the orchestra of different sounds from the various bars. Planet Hollywood is also in the West End. The American's Airline Centre hold many concerts and other events like Barnum & Bailey Circus, Ringling Brother, Disney on Ice and the Harlem Globetrotters. The complex seats 19,200 for basketball, 18,000 for hockey and 20,000 for other events. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Booger Red’s Saloon is interconnecting with the restaurant. It is named in honour of the legendary Texas bronc-busting champion Samuel Thomas Privett (1858-1926). The bar has been a Stockyards District institution since 1984 and features Fort Worth's most complete selection of tequilas, the one-of-a-kind 'Anita-Rita' margarita, a vast selection of cigars, wines and spirits as well as domestic and imported beers. The saloon's most popular drink is the 16-oz. Buffalo Butt Beer, named for the rear end of the mighty beast which is prominently mounted in the centre of Booger Red's bar. Each frosty bottle of Buffalo Butt Beer is served in an iced bucket. Leave a Comment Theme: Eating and DrinkingAddress: Located at the corners of Main and Exchange street
