The Chef/Owner is a Culinary Institute of America graduate, so the cuisine is chef driven. The restaurant is located in a historical hotel (Redlands) in the original restaurant space. The view of the other historical buildings through the amazing windows is lovely. The decor and the music is calm and relaxing. Spirits and a great selection of wine complement the culinary talent of the Chef. Parking on the street or in a dedicated lot is available. The staff is well trained and attentive without being intrusive. Palestine, Texas is a great destination for historical architecture, steam train rides, parks, theatre and NOW for dining!
Favorite Dish: Award winning appetizer of Pan Fried Calamari is a must if it is available. The minute it comes out of the kitchen it fills the room with the basil, garlic and hot cherry pepper aroma.
I love seafood so I wanted to give this place a try after my fiasco at Denny's. This place did not look particularly impressive from the outside. Inside was okay. My catfish was pretty good but not that much above average, as the "Cajun" spices were kinda bland. The service was much better than the Denny's across the street. Pretty good deal though.
Favorite Dish: The Catfish
This was definitely one of the worst experiences I have had at a Denny's. The food was substandard and the service was horrible. The manager was rude too. Admittedly, the place had just opened that week but that is no excuse for being unprofessional. May be okay once they get better organized but; avoid for now.
Ranch House Restaurant
305 E. Crawford, Palestine, TX
One of the most popular restaurants in the small town of Palestine, this steak house has a good selection and pretty good cuisine to choose from. Serves lunch and dinner with an assortment of burgers, steaks, seafood, and appetizers. In the historic hub of Palestine, the building shows flavor of history and culture. I went with my field crew co-workers and we were all pleasantly surprised with the abundance of food and the size of the portions. Good service and good ambience. I had the chicken fried steak dinner which was larger than the plate it was on, and the crawfish appetizer is to die for. Rating 4 stars out of 5.
Where better than to satisfy a sweet tooth, the selection in this bakery is fabulous. The baking company has been famous for its fruit cakes since 1898 and they are also well known for their pies and specialty goods. I bought a dozen of their cookies - all assorted and as they say 'cheaper by the dozen' plus a few of their tempting slices - a dieters worst nightmare.
They have a Bake Shop Tea Room which serves pastry goodies, soup and sandwiches. Tours are available and the bakery ships worldwide.

This is a very popular steak house in Palestine, in fact it was voted the best restaurant by the town by the residents. They offer lunch and dinner with a full menu of seafood and steak selections.
The restaurant is set up in an old brick building which once housed farm tractors in the Old Town Palestine part of town.
