Since it is located IN Pecos can it really be WEST of the Pecos? Anyway this museum has several historic plaques outside and inside you will find lots of displays about the town, the county and the entire region "West of the Pecos". It is better than a lot of local/regional museums. The museum is open Monday through Saturday 9 AM to 5 PM and Sunday 1 PM to 4 PM. It is located in an old hotel/saloon.

Pecos Rodeo Sign

The first rodeo in Pecos occured in 1883, which the town claims as the first ever rodeo. Various other places make similar claims but the Encyclopedia Britannica recognized the Pecos Rodeo as the first one ever. The 128th Annual Rodeo will be held in Pecos 23 to 26 June 2010. The arena easy to find and is located right on US Highway 285. Tickets range from $6 to $11.

Reeves County Courthouse

The Reeves County Courthouse in Pecos was designed by the famous Southwestern firm of Trost & Trost, and was built in 1937 using a mix of Classical Revival and Mediterranean styles. It is not the ugliest courthouse in Texas; but is definitely not the prettiest either.

Alpine Lodge has American style comfort food like chicken fried steak and a decent buffet. When I ate here they had Green Chili Sliders, Pork Roast and Rice, Seasoned Potatoes, Seasoned Green Beans, Chicken Noodle Soup and a salad bar (some better prepared than others). Had a nice piece of Strawberry Shortcake too. The Alpine Lodge is associated with the Best Western Ski Chalet Lodge.

Alfredo's

Alfredo's doesn't look like much from the outside (see photo) as a matter of fact I almost drove past it. The decor on the inside was okay but also nothing special. I ended up happy I stopped here. The food was better than average and the waitstaff efficient and professional (I did not get one of the cuter waitresses though).

Favorite Dish: I had a well prepared Enchilada Platter. It was not the best ever but definitely above average.
