Commanche Springs: Mostly For Truckers in Fort Stockton

by Basaic

I was definitely getting hungry by the time I stopped at this truck stop. The décor was exactly like you would expect for a truck stop. The usual naugahyde and steel, the usual items in the gift shop. I had a Grilled Chicken Breast with a Cheese and Mushroom Sauce, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans. The food was okay but the service was kind of slow for non-truckers. The Grilled Chicken Breast with a Cheese and Mushroom Sauce, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans were all okay.

La Cueva de Leon: Very Good Mexican Food in Fort Davis

by Basaic

La Cueva de Leon Mexican Restaurant was within easy walking distance from my motel so I figured I would give it a try. It looked fairly nice from the outside with solid walls and nice windows. Inside was the typical wood and colorful decor of a Mexican restaurant. The staff was friendly enough and the food was very good. I would eat here again, and it is fine for a Mexican dinner. Hours are 11:30 to 3PM and 5PM to 9PM, Monday through Saturday. They are closed on Sunday. My Quesadilla was very good.

Seoul Restaurant: Great Asian Buffet in Del Rio

by Basaic

The Seoul Restaurant offers a variety of Chinese and Korean dishes in an all you can eat buffet. The food is brought out often and they have a decent selection of fruit and deserts too. This is one of the few buffets that had good kimch'i! Nice mix of Chinese and Korean food.

The Loose Caboose: Good Home Cooking in Dalhart

by Basaic

The Loose Caboose serves sandwiches and burgers; but try the specials. The special is normally a serving of meat, potatoes or macaroni and cheese, and a vegetable. Home cooking and a friendly staff. Seemed popular with the locals. Located in the historic district near the court house. I recommend it! Try the ham, loved it!

Famous Burro: Nice Small Town Cafe in Marathon

by Basaic

The Famous Burro got its name because the owner's burro won the Miss Burro beauty contest 5 years in a row. The outside looks like it was converted into a restaurant from an old gas station. The inside is fairly basic; but has some nice paintings. The decor is in keeping with West Texas; no frills. The Famous Burro appeared popular with the locals and there were a few repeat customers that were traveling through the area. The menu was varied and I enjoyed my Chicken and Dumplings. They have a gift shop and a full service bar. Dan, the girl behind the bar, was very nice but did not want her picture posted here. This is a great choice if you want something less expensive and less formal than the Gage. I enjoyed my Chicken and Dumplings very well. Home cooking! It was the Special of the Day.

Adrian's: Decent Mexican Fast Food in Brookshire

by Basaic

Adrian’s was conveniently located across the street from my hotel, the Super 8. Service was acceptable until one of the off-duty waitresses came in and then the girl behind the counter forgot about serving customers and got more interested in gossip. The Enchilada Platter was average, too. I will probably try somewhere else next time I am driving through here. The Enchilada Platter was okay.

Big Texan Steak Ranch, Amarillo: You can do it!!!

by razorbacker

Well, this place is famous. I've been past here quite a few times, even eaten here once before. Those who've seen this place and its challenge featured on "Man vs. Food" on the Travel Channel know the lowdown here. If you can eat a 72-ounce steak and all the trimmings in one hour, it's free. If not it's 72 bucks to ya, payable up front. You have to eat the steak (but not the fat or gristle,) a house salad, a vegetable side, a baked potato (but not the skin,) three jumbo shrimp (but not the tails,) and a dinner roll. I thought about taking the challenge when we were here in 2006, but didn't have the time or wherewithal. This time I pretty well resolved to give it a shot before we even left home. I have to say it was about the best steak I've had. And it's quite an unforgettable experience. I had my wife and son to cheer me on, and in fact as Hoss Cartwright would say "...the whole...

Magnolia Cafe: Breakfast Around the Clock

by Mainemermaid

A hip-hop-happening spot so popular guests sign-up on a waiting list at times. Homemade, health-conscious, deliciousness! Great coffee. Beer and wine also. Migas: the local concoction of eggs scrambled with green peppers, onions, tortilla chips, cheese and topped with salsa. Magnolia's always includes jalapenos. Served with black beans and your choice of corn, flour or whole wheat tortillas. Spicy hot and soul satisfying.

TEXAS ROADHOUSE: STEAKHOUSE NEAR OUR MOTEL

by LoriPori

Thursday, September 24, 2009When In Texas, you must eat STEAK. So that's just what we did. A short drive from our Travelodge Motel, we found the TEXAS ROADHOUSE which is a US chain restaurant. Hans ordered the Sirloin Hearty Cut ($13.99) and I ordered the smaller 6 ounce Sirloin ($7.99). both were absolutely delicious, cooked to perfection (both medium rare) and melted in your mouth. Hans ordered a "loaded" baked potato (butter, sour cream, bacon bits & cheddar cheese (.99 extra). We both got a garden salad with our meals and also garlic bread. On top of all that, it's a Roadhouse tradition to have a bucket of whole, salted peanuts at your table, which you can chomp away at while waiting for your dinner to arrive. Just throw the shells on the floor - no problemo!

The Burrito Shop: Best Burritos in the U.S.!

by aimeewoods

This was a family-owned restaurant when we lived in the area. Everything is homemade, right down to their soft, thick flour tortillas. The portions are massive and the price can't be beat. After I moved to Oklahoma, I would take a once a month trip 2 hours south just to get my fix! The only con is their short store hours. Potato & cheese burrito
