Huck's Catfish: Catfish

by Astrobuck

This place is very small, but is also very popular. The staff is absolutely wonderful, and the food is great. I spoke with the owner personally to get information from him, and he was more than happy to give it to me. This place is a must, and you will miss out terribly if you do not eat here.

Sonic Drive-In: Extreme North Texas - Fast Food

by ATXtraveler

Although the history of this drive in actually dates back to Shawnee, Oklahoma, Texans by far outweigh those Okies in number of customers for Sonic Drive-In.Sonic was started in 1954 and was originally known as Top-Hat drive in. The owners changed the name to Sonic, since they like to deliver your food "at the speed of sound".The nice and unique thing about this fast food location is that you do not have to leave your car. A Carhop will deliver your food after you order it over the intercom. Just sit back and relax. As you drive through small towns in Texas, you will see one of these locations just about everywhere!! The ice in all the drinks is really good... also a Sonic #2 burger!

Whataburger: South Texas - Original Fast Food

by ATXtraveler

Pronounced "Waterburger", this is really a delicious option if you are looking for fast food timing great tasting eats! From Whataburger's website:"In 1950, a former bush pilot and entrepreneur by the name of Harmon Dobson opened a small, unassuming hamburger stand in South Texas. Driven by his tireless creative spirit, he decided that his hamburger buns should be five inches – unlike the standard four-inch buns – in order to hold his 1/4 lb. pure beef patty. After all, he thought, people in Texas think big. And he wanted to make sure that when people saw it, they would exclaim, “What a burger!” After selling hundreds of burgers on opening day, Mr. Dobson knew he was onto something big."The original is still located in Corpus Christi, Texas and that is still the corporate headquarters, even though there are now thousands!

Bodacious BBQ: Piney Woods - East Texas BBQ

by ATXtraveler

If you are taking a tour of Texas, it is mandatory that you eat some of Texas' finest cuisine, BBQ. Just to clarify, this is different than Barbecue, and you will soon find out after you bite into its deliciousness. One staple of East Texas BBQ is Bodacious BBQ, which is found in many different towns in what Texans call the Piney Woods.I would highly recommend you try either the brisket (sliced beef) or the Chopped Beef Sandwich.

Texas Roadhouse: Good Texas Style Meals

by Sweetberry1

The Texas Roadhouse is a great place to eat if you like a good tender steak. But that is not all that they serve here.. there are various other foods on the menu..Ribs, Chicken Dishes, Various Seafood, Side Items, Fresh Baked Bread, and Cold Beer. And the portions are large. The atmosphere is very casual, and the staff are really friendly

The Outback: An Aussie in Texas..

by Sweetberry1

I was rather surprised on entering The Outback resturant. The decore was so very Australian, blue gum branches and leaves were everywhere.. not to mention, a koala or two, and several other mammals. The Meals were great, the atmosphere nice and relaxed, and the service excellent.

The China Star...: One of the best.

by Sweetberry1

The China Star resturant was a very pleasant place to eat. Casual and relaxing atmosphere, and a smorgasboard of delicious meals. They serve a 'All you can eat' buffet, and you can go back for a second helping. Nice friendly place. I had a variety of foods on offer, all very nice, but the spring rolls, I remember the most.. they were delicious.

Tip Photo
Kreuz and Black's: Texas Barbecue

by zrim

About this, I will brook no argument. The best eating in all the United States of America is to be found in the town of Lockhart, Texas. Black's Barbecue is hands down the best beef brisket I have ever had. Perfectly, charred on the outside and buttery smooth in the middle. The meat melts in your mouth. I would travel to Texas just for the brisket. Meanwhile, the Kreuz barbecue warehouse on the edge of town serves up some right mean barbecued sausages. There is no way around it, if you pass through Lockhart at lunchtime, you will just have to have two lunches. One at Black's and one at Kreuz's.

Saltgrass Steak House

by keeweechic

The Salthouse Steak House is a Texas Born restaurant chain. The original restaurant was built on the Salt Grass Trail of Longhorns run to the Texas Gulf Coast which was known as the best beef in the whole Lone Star State. The original restaurant still stands today. They say that they try to recaptures the flavor of the open campfire. Steaks, chicken, and seafood, chargrilled to perfection. They also have breads, soups and desserts. There are a lot of old favourites. The restaurant is popular but our experience, just one time, was not good. The steak was small, thin and not done to what was asked. The Caesar Salad was wilting... so make up your own mind.

Tip Photo
Chili's Restaurants

by keeweechic

Chili's Restaurant is not only know all through the USA but also in 22 countries. My first experience of a Chili's was in Singapore. Most though won't realise that the first Chili's restaurant opened in Dallas on Greenville Ave. The building was an old inter-urban electric rail depot with a rail line at that time connecting Dallas to McKinney, Sherman and Denison. The building was later demolished to make way for a new Chili's restaurant and parking lot. Those who know Chili's will know their signature items such as the famous double-basted Baby Back Ribs, sizzling fajitas, grilled steaks and Boneless Buffalo Wings.
