Round Rock, Texas would probably not be the first place you would think, if I were to ask you: What city in America has the largest minor league baseball team in terms of attendance?
The Round Rock Express is owned by the Ryan family, including Nolan and his son Reid. They average over 10,000 people a game and with reasons like Andy Petitte doing minor league stints here due to its close proximity to Houston, it makes for a great place to watch a game.
The stadium is called the Dell Diamond, and it is very state of the art.
The Texas Stars are a AAA level Ice Hockey team playing in Cedar Park which is just past Round Rock. It is very good quality hockey as the AHL is the highest level of development leagues below the NHL. It is much less expensive too as you can get good seats for as little as 12.00 sometimes.
Like any minor league sport it has some cheesy aspects such as local businesses givings way coupons via a flying blimp but overall it is a lot of fun. One warning though is that the seats are really cramped. They are worse than any airline seats I have been on.
