Its an unusual name for a town, to be sure. Once you leave the small downtown district of Round Rock and continue down Main Street, you'll see a stately brick residence on the right known as the Nelson-Crier House. There is a historical marker and a pull off where you can park and admire the house from the road, but it's not open to the public.A marker informs us that this home was built by...more
After the Civil War, cattle drives helped to revitalize Texas. It's thought that more than six million cattle were moved from Texas to markets in Kansas and as far as present-day Oklahoma over a period of about 20 years.Opening pic--ruts cut into Brushy Creek from wagon wheels traveling the Chisholm TrailIt might be interesting to know that...more
There is an actual round rock from which the town drew its name. It sits in the middle of Brushy Creek and marks a low water crossing where native Indians, pioneers and the cattle drives could cross safely.Jim and I parked our car near Chisholm Trail Commemorative Park and walked down a slight grade to where a small bridge spanned the creek. Here,...more

Originally, the old town was situated at the corner of Brushy Creek, where the actual round rock sits. A mile or so from this first site, Round Rock's historic downtown area is only about two blocks long, but it captures the character of a small late 1800's town beautifully. Bad guy, Sam Bass, had his gunfight with the Texas Rangers in this...more

In late 2011, "Texas Monthly" magazine named Round Rock Donuts the "Best Donuts in Texas." That's a lot of donuts! No, it's not Whataburger. I take nothing from Whataburger by saying that Little Red Wagon is better. Whataburger is great for a chain burger place but Little Red Wagon is family owned and the burgers are hand made one at a time. This is one of thise places where they expect you to ask for a custom burger. They have terriffic chili cheese fires and...more
No frills BBQ restaurant. Food's served on parchment paper with plastic utensils. Do not be turned off by this though, the food is tasty and price is very reasonable. The BBQ sauce is not thick and the taste is not overpowering like most I've had before. New outlets opening soon at several places in Texas, including Frisco at Dallas Parkway....more

Fast Eddie's is an odd bird of the nightlife tips pages I would leave you with.
I have been kicked out of this pool hall for wearing a tanktop after 7pm, even though most of the people playing pool do not have a full set of teeth, and should not judge anyone!
It has a happening happy hour scene, and the pool is very inexpensive.
Dress Code: Whatever you like until 7pm, then dress to impress.

They have the best Chicken Fried Steak around. They are set behind a bar so you really have to look to find them. But when you do find them you will keep going back for more. The have killer home made brownies that are bigger than your hand. They also serve breakfast from the time they open until they close. They treat you as if you were going in there forever. You are family from the minute you walk in the door.

The Texas Stars are a AAA level Ice Hockey team playing in Cedar Park which is just past Round Rock. According to accounts of his personality, Sam Bass committed train robberies more for amusement than anything else.
