The Salt Flats, which was the cause of all the fighting and bloodshed are most visible east of town. Sorry about the poor picture, I just pointed and shot while driving by at 70 mph.

Salt Flat was founded near a series of salt deposits formed by intermittent lakes here in West Texas. This area was the focus of bloody disputes known as the salt wars involving: Mexican and U.S. Citizens; political parties, judges, legislators, Texas Rangers and army troops in the 1860s and 1870s. Murders, assassinations and revenge killings were common during this time. Today Salt Flat is a quiet little town with about 35 residents and several ruins. There is a diner here but I did not try it.
