Try the Guenther House in the King William area just south of downtown. Open for breakfast and lunch. Plan to arrive early for lunch (11 AM) or you may have to wait. Set in the historic Pioneer Flour Mills grounds in the home of C.H. Guenther. The food is top notch and the pastries...yummy. Tour the grounds and shop in the gift shop. A unique experience you will not regret. Recently voted best breakfast in San Antonio. Park on the south parking lot during the week.
Favorite Dish:
Chicken Salad sandwich is always good with big chunks of chicken. The daily specials are great. Save room for dessert or take home fome fresh baked pastries.
Carl Hilmar Guenther, the founder of Pioneer Flour Mills, built this elegant home in 1860. Pioneer has restored the home to welcome visitors as a museum, restaurant, and retail store.
is a small restaurant but everything is fresh and many items are made of mixes made by neighboring Pioneer Flour Mills.
They only serve breakfast and lunch. The King William District features some lovely homes so you can walk off some of your meal afterwards by checking out the neighborhood. You can either eat on the verandah or inside.
Favorite Dish:
I had the pancakes w/syrup. Check out the gift shop to pick up a pancake mix to take home.
This restaurant is part of the old Pioneer Flour Mill and is housed in a historic, Victorian era home. The decor is very quaint and the "house" has a main dining room with numerous private dining areas.
Favorite Dish:
The pancakes at the Guenther House are great comfort food. Excellent sides include eggs, bacon, the works!
The nice garden cafe at Guenther House is a great place to go for a Southern/Tex-Mex breakfast or lunch (breakfast is served all afternoon). Located in the beautiful King William District, the Guenther House Cafe has a refined yet casual atmosphere, and it really isn't expensive. As this was the home of the Pioneer Flour Mills' founding family, you can expect a lot of Pioneer products on the menu and if you really enjoy them, you can stop by the gift shop afterwards to bring some home. You can also take a few minutes after your meal to tour around the house. There's not that much to see, but it's free of charge.

My breakfast tacos were delicious and filled me up all the way to dinner!
