The San Antonio City Hall is a beautiful one completed in 1892 by Otto Kramer using the Italian Renaissance Revival style of architecture. The Old Spanish Trail which stretched from St. Augustine, Florida to Los Angeles, California passed by here. In the 1920's the southern U. S. Transcontinental Auto Highway replaced the trail and was headquarters out of the Gunter Hotel here in San Antonio. The completion of the highway was commemorated by placing the zero milestone marker on the grounds of the City Hall. There are several other historic markers and statues on the grounds as well. There is a monument to the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to the culture of the country in general and Texas in particular. Also on the site is a statue of Moses Austin who delivered a petition to the Spanish Governor here in 1820 to settle a colony of U.S. Citizens in Spanish Texas. This was the beginning of the settlement of Texas by the United States and led to the eventual formation of the Republic of Texas.

We walked by the city hall on several occasions, thought it was a rather unique looking structure, like some European cathedrals having two distinctly different towers. However, I could find no further information about it.
