If you want to get into the atmosphere of the Alamo battle, to better visualize the events that took place there, or if you are in San Antonio with kids and you want them to have some fun-cum-education, vosot the Imax Theater in the Rivercenter Mall and watch "Alamo - The Price of Freedom".
The movie introduces you to David Crockett, William Barret Travis, Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna and all the other protagonists of those 13 days in 1836. The big screen makes it all more tangible.
In the lobby there is a small exhibition on the Alamo.
We love history, so our trip to San Antonio was primarily to see the Alamo. The IMAX theatre added a dimension to our visit that we all enjoyed! This theatre was presenting seven different films throughout the day.
One of the films, ALAMO....The Price of Freedom, was playing daily from 9 am-8 pm. We visited the Alamo itself, then ended our day by viewing the movie. The movie focuses on the 13 day siege and fall of the Alamo. It was interesting and action-filled! PLEASE NOTE: They will not seat you if you are late.
The IMAX had comfortable seats, a huge screen and was a cool respite from the heat of the day. Somewhere along the way, I had picked up a discount coupon for $1.00 off each ticket in our hotel lobby.
Your ticket to the IMAX gives you three hours free parking at Rivercenter Parking Garage. The cost for two adults and one child under age 11 was $23.00.
If you've never seen an IMAX movie, check it out at the IMAX theater in Rivercenter Mall. While they show regular movies on the IMAX screen (it's humongous), the best shows are usually the documentaries made specifically for the IMAX. It really gives you a sensation of being there.
The IMAX Theater offers a larger than life depiction of the Seige of the Alamo entitled "Alamo...The Price of Freedom".
