    The Texas Theatre

    by Djinn76 Written Dec 28, 2003

In Houston Street, this large downtown theater opened in 1926 for the Publix-Paramount chain has really been successful and popular. It began to decline in the 70s, closed and was razed in 1983!! The wonderful terra-cotta façade could have disappeared forever but Southwestern Bell, the company that took over the building, saved it, restored it to its 20ies appearance and incorporated it into the modern office building built on the site.
