The unique 30-story Tower Life Building was completed in 1929 and originally called the Smith Young Tower. Built as the great depression was beginning, it is said the architect included Medieval gargoyles to protect the building from evil spirits and bad luck. It was San Antonio's tallest building from its completion until the Marriott was built in 1988.
Its green roof and unique lighting make the Tower Life Building one of the most easily recognized landmarks in the city.
