Since the Town Center is operating as the neighborhood meeting place, lots of events are scheduled here. Free summer concerts are held at the gazebo, which is a central point in the square. People of all ages come to hear the music. Some people tow coolers filled with snacks and beverages; others simply sit in their lawn chairs and nod to the tunes....more

Once a year to mark the annual Monarch migration, the community of Southlake invites the public to the gathering of these lovely creatures. A giant net tent is erected under the Town Center gazebo roof and an admission is charged. By the time this event has ended, almost 1,000 butterflies will have been released. As I was visiting the butterfly...more
Although not in Southlake, Mountasia is located just six miles from here. We wanted to try out their go karts, but they also have bumper boats, a kid maze, an arcade, mini golf, batting cages and bouncing houses. It was a very hot afternoon when we visited with not much shade to offer, so my advice is to go either in the morning or evening. In spite...more
One afternoon while on a self-guided wildflower expedition, I pulled in to see all that was included in Southlake's Bicentennial Park. I had noticed it as I drove by numerous times, but had never visited. A beautifully landscaped portion of Bicentennial Park is set aside and named Liberty Garden.A pretty arbor gives entrance to the garden, where...more
I'm an avid reader, so having a library in my community is a wonderful amenity! The Southlake Public Library is located in our municipal building in the Town Center. One of the first things I did after we moved to Texas was to apply for a library card--which was given to me on the spot!Although the library is not very large, it has a children's...more

Celebrity Cafe and Bakery is actually located in nearby Colleyville, a neighboring community of Southlake! It's a real treat eating at Celebrity--it's just the right spot to feel at home for lunch. Maybe it's the pretty pink decor, beautiful glass flowered-shaped chandelier or it could be the melt-in-your-mouth, delicious cakes and cookies....in any...more
The Southlake Tavern serves good ole' downhome cooking along with Tex-Mex in its combination of entrees. Jazz is offered on Saturday evenings after 9 pm. There is a pub-like feel to the place. We ordered a Butterflied Shrimp Platter--a generous helping of shrimp coated in a ginger tempura batter with seasoned fries accompanying the entree and a...more
This restaurant has changed names, so it may have changed hands, as well. The small outdoor dining area caught my eye as we walked by, but the great aromas and interesting artwork on the walls called us inside for a better look. Sandella's Cafe offers pizza, sandwiches, quesadillas and other similar types of food. We chose pizza on this visit.The...more
This restaurant has changed its name and may be under new management. To look at Cotton Belt Bar-b-que Company from streetside, it sure doesn't look like much...but inside--a delight awaits!A rustic interior adds to the historic flavor of the place. Concrete floors, a tub of peanuts and family style tables complete the decor (picture 4).The best...more
Since I don't have a page on Keller, Texas I am placing this restaurant in my Southlake page. We've enjoyed dinner here many times, so its about time I added this as a tip.Mezza Luna is one of our favorite picks because the service is always top notch and the Italian-style cuisine excellent. This intimate size restaurant offers an additional dining...more
UPDATE: Sorry to see its no longer open. Such a shame because we enjoyed dropping by.SEEKERS, a newly opened coffeehouse in Hurst, Tx exudes a pleasant atmosphere. Immediately as you step through the front door Christian music greets you, as well as, several friendly faces. You'll be directed to the front counter where your order is placed then...more
Pei Wei is a half step away from P.F. Chang's in that it's a more casual version of that Chinese restaurant. Feeling more like a cafeteria and less like a restaurant, Pei's serves 'wok-seared and fresh served' food that brings many of Southlake's dinner crowd to its doors. Our friends the Holcombe's, suggested stopping here on a recent weekend. They...more
Bringing a collection of "bests" with it, Best Bargain Best Burger, Best No Frills Burger, Best French Fries, Best New Restaurant I knew this had to be something above the norm. Buca has dozens of restaurants across the United States, but we've never dined there until last evening. We're told its name means, "Joe's Basement" and the decor brings to mind a family owned restaurant operating from one's home...low ceilings, narrow hallways, 'family photos' and cozy ambience. Promoting 'immigrant Italian cuisine', this...more
We were meeting new friend, Robin, when we first dropped by Campania. We had been wanting to do so for weeks and this gave us the opportunity. After being promptly greeted at the door, we requested a table for three on the upper level patio. We were guided through the downstairs dining area up steps to the third floor--an elevator gives one another...more
Recently my husband and I had the pleasure of meeting Kay (kyoub) and her husband, Khalil at Thai Chili (picture 2). As a restaurant,The Feedstore has little 'atmosphere', but it does have good food. We tried it out recently and agree that this restaurant serves up some great BBQ! It's cafeteria style dining, so you'll have to stand in line with a tray.I ordered sliced beef brisket, potato salad, green beans, roll with butter and a beverage. The beef was tender...more
When casual dining is what you want, try Snuffers. Most likely there will be a wait on the weekends, but the food is good and the restaurant is usually packed. They've nicely provided a few chairs and built in benches for your comfort until your name is called--which you'll appreciate if they're booming as usual.Since our trip to Santa Fe, I've...more
When we first moved to Southlake one of our neighbors said to be sure to try McAllisters Deli. Once you place your order at the counter and are given a number for your meal, you can choose a booth anywhere there is space available. The dining area is bright and cheerful with plaid curtains and touches of brass throughout. Some other items from the...more
When eating out with the kids, TACO DINER would be a good choice. I love my grandson to pieces, but he is a typical "picky" kid---just basic stuff touches his lips.Taco Diner is a contemporary styled eatery decorated with vivid colors of blue, yellow with pastel pink touches. Niches filled with black and white Mexican pottery and old movie posters...more
If you have the yen for Tex-Mex and you want to add a bit of atmosphere to your dining, try Anamia's. This restaurant is not a fast food establishment, but instead is a bit more sophisticated.Upon entering we noticed large planters bearing lush greenery, wrought iron embellishments and stone and stuccoed walls. It was lunchtime and I tend to order...more

Aside from demonstrating your loyalty to school and sports affiliations with Mums, another way to show SPIRIT is to decorate one's car with the traditional colors of green and white. Mums are a Texas tradition. The first ones were designed around 1916 as corsages made from fresh chrysanthemums and decorated with a ribbon in school colors. Friends mentioned a marker detailing a tragic encounter with infamous criminals, Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker that sat along Old Dove Road in Southlake, Texas.
Taking our daughter and grandson along on our search, we located the site where State Troopers Edward Bryan Wheeler and H.D. Murphy were slain after stopping to help who they thought were some "stranded motorists'. As they left their motorcylces and approached the car, shots rang out and the two were dead.
This memorial was given in 1996 by the people of Texas in thanks for the sacrifice they made to public safety.
Southlake is known for its football team, the DRAGONS. Each summer a training camp is held, overseen by highschool football coach, Todd Dodge. Our grandson was...more
