Ameriquest Field-Home of the Texas Rangers by VeronicaG, 4 more photos What could be more fun on a pleasant night than a ball game? This was one of the first activities we took in after moving here! We purchased tickets to see the Texas Rangers play the Tampa Devil Rays. Rangers won 13-6 and it was an exciting game! Each time Texas hit a home run, fireworks lit up the skies above Ameriquest Field. The night was a comfortable 70 some degrees, the crowd was compatable, the colorful skies illuminated and the hot dogs had that unique ballpark taste--in a word, yummy!! Ameriquest Field opened in April,1994 and is part of a 270 acre complex. It is an open-air ballpark offering over 49,000 seats on five levels. The complex contains a 12 acre lake, baseball museum, a youth baseball park, recreation area and children's learning center, as well. Retail shops are located in an office building at the site. The playing field is of sod with the outfield an asymmetrical shape reminiscent of those constructed in the early 20th century. The facility cost 191 millions dollars to build. There are 120 suites located on the lower and upper levels. In addition, a large suite for special functions is located at each of these levels. A two-tiered seating area is located in the right field, much like oldtime construction. Overhead fans were installed to provide for more comfortable spectating. Ticket holders can grab a bite to eat at The Bullpen Grill, located in the left field. It seats 150 on three levels with a view of the field. The Diamond Club can be reserved for special events and holds up to 500 seated guests or 1,000 buffet style. The Gold Club (mezzanine level)is for season ticket holders in the lower seating area and has a complete bar, tv monitors and food service. Concession stands number 75 and are located on all three concourses. by Astrobuck If you like baseball, especially minor leauge, you will love this. They aren't the best team, but the experience is great!! The tickets are only about $7 per/person, and the seats are good, no matter where they are located.

Cotton Bowl by ATXtraveler One of the most exciting sports activities to do throughout the year is to go to a College Football Bowl Game. If you are in Dallas for New Year's, you can expect a 10am kick off at the Texas State Fair Park, home to the SBC Cotton Bowl. This New Year's tradition has been around for 69 years, and is still going strong. Tickets are about $75 USD, which may be worth it just to see the pageantry. The Cotton Bowl also hosts "The Red River Shootout" between the University of Texas and University of Oklahoma every year.
Your school colors, fun loving attitude, and cash... since the line for the ATM machine is ridiculous!!! Leave a Comment Theme: Sports WatchingAddress: 3750 Midway Plaza, Dallas, TXPhone: 888-792-BOWLWebsite: http://cottonbowl.org

BU - 35, TAMU 34 by ATXtraveler Being a Baylor Alumni, it is only fair that the first college football tip that I write pertains to my University. Baylor is a small school of only 15,000 students, but we play a much tougher schedule, facing off against Texas (50K students), Texas A&M (30K), and others in the Big 12 conference. Baylor has not had much luck lately in the Big 12, but we still win a couple shockers every year! Floyd Casey Stadium is where the Bears play, and it has been known as a great place to watch a game, mainly because you can always get a seat, its inexpensive, and convienent. Leave a Comment

Roller Derby by Sweetberry1 Rollerskating used to be a passion of mine, so when I heard that there was a skating rink not too far from where I was staying, I had to check it out..And YES, I could still do it..;-) I guess it is like riding a bike.. some things you just don't forget.
Rollerskates... you can bring your own, or hire at the skating rink. Leave a Comment Theme: Extreme SportsAddress: Killeen

by nomorewars My kids and I awoke to the deafening sounds of earsplitting thunder: it boomed and banged, frequently, over and over again, in an insidious concerto full of melodic explosion, while we wiped the morning crust from our eyes – this was our welcoming to the dawn of a new day. We amassed in the dining room area of our home where, after taking a few minutes to stretch and yawn, we stepped outside to survey the weather conditions: every cloud that fell within sight was as black as the longest winter’s night; the sky bore the ominous signs of what was to come, bad weather. We nibbled on some leftover pasta and scallops, each one of us drinking a tall glass of water. After washing up and brushing our teeth, we loaded the Honda Pilot up with towels, sunscreen, and a change of clothes: we were going to make our daytrip to Lake Livingston, one way or another, regardless of God’s designs. We spent about an hour driving northwest from Houston; and the more our distance from Houston increased, the bluer the skies became – and the calmer as well. It quickly became evident that we would be able to enjoy our day – my only day off from work this week – after all. This excited the kids. We drove around a great portion of the lake and were unable to find any public swimming areas: it seemed as though Lake Livingston, although enjoyed by members of the public to some degree, had been designed more for the enjoyment of private landowners than for daytrippers like me and my kids – this was our initial impression, anyways. After spending roughly thirty minutes driving around like a band of blind coal miners attempting to extract coal from the deepest holes of the earth, we became overwrought with disappointment and anger: Was it possible we were not going to find a place to swim along the shoreline of this enormous lake? No, of course not; we ended up finding a charming, little spot within the boundaries of Wolf Creek Park.
Wolf Creek Park is located on the outskirts of the town of Onalaska, Texas, in the northern borderline of the Sam Houston National Forest, dead-smack in the middle of civilization and the Texas wilderness. There is a small entrance fee, about $2.00 per person, which, in my humble opinion, is extremely reasonable. The entire park is extremely clean and organized; the administrators of this recreational area do a great job with keeping the place tidy. The park contains a swimming area, campgrounds, a store, and numerous trails to hike – it offers an overall thrilling opportunity for one to interact with Mother Nature. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

1995 Dallas Cowboys by ATXtraveler It is really debatable across the country on how many people agree with the moniker "America's Team", however most people in Dallas would believe that this is the case. The Dallas Cowboys have a long history with the City of Dallas, and have a huge following of loyal fans. The Cowboys play in the National Football League, which is the highest level of competition in American Football. The Cowboys humbly began in 1960 under coach Tom Landry with an 0-10-1 record, but have recovered to be one of the Leagues most storied franchises.
Dallas plays in Irving, TX at Texas Stadium. A new bond measure in Dallas will possibly be moving them to Arlington in the near future, however for the time being, you can still find them in Irving. Leave a Comment

Dallas Mavericks Basketball by ATXtraveler In March of 1980, Dallas was named the site for expansion of the NBA. During a radio call in contest, citizens of Dallas chose the Mavericks as the name of their team. From 1980 till 2000, Dallas had one of the more mediocre to downright terrible teams in the history of the NBA. Then a "maverick" owner named Mark Cuban hit the scene, reinvesting in the team and the arena, and the results have been marvelous. Dallas now boasts one of the nicest arenas to watch basketball, the American Airlines Center, and a very good team Leave a Comment

San Antonio Spurs by ATXtraveler When you are in San Antonio in the Fall, Winter and Spring, you will have 41 opportunities to catch the San Antonio Spurs. The San Antonio Spurs play basketball in the National Basketball Association and have very recently won 2 World Championships. Made famous by the combination of David Robinson and Tim Duncan, this San Antonio team is exciting to watch. The Spurs are the only top level professional sports team in San Antonio, so they are very well liked. They play their games at the SBC Center in San Antonio, which just opened up a couple years ago.
