If you are a state or two away, driving would be okay, but you are going to be doing a lot of that while you are here, if you are planning on seeing Texas. Flying into any of the larger airports would be the easiest: Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin. You will need to either drive your own or rent a car while you are here. That way you can go when and where you want! Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Dallas\Fort Worth International is HUGE!,very Huge!.The Airport is almost the size of Dallas itself so be prepared for Train Rides to your gate. Each Concourse is in a Different Building and DFW seems to be packed at all times.Flying here can be a headache as well as Driving. With the Sudden Population Boom here,Dallas\Fort Worth has become very congested but one thing I like about the Freeways here,They are Very Clean and just about brand new especially in the DFW Airport and North Dallas areas. After You fly into DFW(Hopefully with Good Luck). This is Texas and forget about doing anything if you dont have a car.DART Bus and Rail have spent lots of money on New Light Rail lines, but the service is not as good as in most major cities. The Dallas area covers a lot of land area and DART does not. Please rent a Car!!. The best way is to drive . Texas is to pretty to be seen at 30,000 feet. If you had to fly rent a car the drives are nice and public transportation isn't readily available. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Plane:Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, El Paso and Harlengen will get you (sort of) near where you are going; bus will get you around, but might have to travel opposite direction first, car: roads are well marked and well mantained, plus it gives the freedom to get off the beaten path; and boat: a large stretch of Texas is coastline with a few major ports. Car. If you want to check out a pasture you will need to switch to either a 4wheeler or horse (this is preferred) Theme: Other

Texan distances are best negotiated by car ; in fact, in the larger cities like Dallas or Houston driving is all but essential. Greyhound routes are concentrated between the major cities of the east and the central region, though buses also serve the Gulf Coast, the Rio Grande Valley, West Texas and, to a lesser extent, the Panhandle. Two Amtrak trains pass through Texas: The Texas Eagle travels between Chicago and San Antonio, stopping in Dallas and Austin; while the Sunset Limited stops in Houston, Alpine and El Paso on its way between Orlando and Los Angeles. An Amtrak Thruway bus links San Antonio with Laredo. Flying saves time and can be very cheap; look out for price wars between airlines such as Southwest and smaller local carriers. Where Texas really falls down is on public transportation within the cities themselves; mass transit has proved impractical in a state where long distances - in Houston many people travel at least thirty miles to work - and low gasoline prices make the love affair with the car almost inevitable. Cycling only really makes sense within cities like Austin and San Antonio. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

Everything's Bigger in Texas - Even Rest Stops by DueSer One thing I do like about Texas is that they have really amazing rest stops. This may not sound like a big deal but considering how large the state is and how many miles of road they have, a rest stop can quickly become a very important thing in your life. Every rest stop is unique and fully loaded with all the bells and whistles. If you need it, I am almost certain you'll find it. Not just bathrooms and vending machines but tourist information, the internet, playgrounds for the kids, you name it. They're really terrific and put other states to shame. Leave a Comment
