This is a place to go for good home cooking. The decor is nostalgic with ads and photos from the road dating to the 50s and 60s and ites you might have seen in Grandma's kitchen. The staff was very friendly and the food was really tasty. Next time I am in Van Horn, I will stop here again, unless I am seeking a new place to write up for my fellow VTers. They specialize in Mexican Food but have a variety of American dishes too.
Favorite Dish: I had a very tasty fish dish. Portions were only average but prep was great.
The Sand's Restaurant is located on the main street of Van Horn near I-10. It offered a variety of food ranging from steak to chicken to Mexican. I ordered an enchilada platter. It was pretty good. The decor was simple; but I liked the family photos displayed throughout the place. The staff was efficient enough and fairly friendly. Most of the clientele however, seems to be locals. They have a buffet in addition to menu order and serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Favorite Dish: I enjoyed my enchilada platter, especiallt the beef enchilada. A friend of mine ate here before and said the breakfast is good too.
