The Dove's Nest: New Southern Cuisine, Gifts and Antiques

by VeronicaG Updated May 18, 2007

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

The Dove's Nest offers a nice selection of gifts and antiques, which are interspersed throughout the store in eyecatching vignettes. Lots of people were browsing the aisles when we ventured in.

There were so many pretty things I didn't know what to check out first! Home furnishings, collectibles, country pieces, Victorian style accessories and many other items filled the store.

Next door is the Dove's Nest restaurant, which can be entered from the gift shop. (See my restaurant tip on this highly rated restaurant!)

Hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-5pm; Sunday 1 pm-5pm. An additional store is located in Ennis, Texas at 219 W. Ennis Avenue.

    What to buy: Home accessories

What to pay: Wide range of prices

Gingerbread Antique Mall and others: Antiques, antiques, antiques....

by VeronicaG Updated May 18, 2007

    4 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

I really liked this store! There were vintage items, such as Fiestaware dishes or antique furniture, glassware, silver pieces and so much more.

I was particularly interested in the Fiestaware, which is bright colored dishware from the '50's. A very helpful lady showed me the difference between authentic dishes and contemporary reproductions.

Quite a few antique stores are located in this same area, so it was easy to go from one store to the other. I'd recommend The Gingerbread Antique Mall--the staff was friendly and knowledgeable; the store loaded with unique items and things great for every day use.

Appraisal Day is held every second Saturday of the month for which there is no charge. (See accompanying photos for additional antique stores in the area.)

What to buy: Antiques and collectibles

What to pay: From moderate to pricey

Bella Misty and another fine store...: Home Decor and more

by VeronicaG Updated May 18, 2007

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

As we strolled through Waxahachie we came to Bella Misty, a home furnishings store which seemed a cut above the ordinary.

Unique looking lamps and one-of-a-kind furniture pieces, mirrors, wall art, ceramics and other ornaments for your home were tastefully arranged throughout the store. There was just a nice ambiance to this place. I'd pop in again if I travel to Waxahachie anytime soon.

(Picture 2)While we were in the antiques district we happened by this beautifully decorated shop, but I'm not sure of the name. It could possibly be ANNIE LLOYD's.

The woman tending the shop said it had been her daughter's, but that she was now helping with the daily running of it. I do know that this store was located near the Gingerbread Antique Mall on South College Street.

What to buy: Anything nice for the home

What to pay: Moderate to pricey

This was interesting little set up. I couldn't fathom the relation to teachers and teaching that this little group of shops were referring to. While some were educational, a lot of the little stores were just gifts and crafts. Just small but still an interesting little stop off.
Not sure of the road but it could be Ferris Road.

In keeping with the theme of the festival there were shops selling renaissance styled garments. If this is your thing, then these festivals are definitely the place to find them.

While these were being sold at the festival, the hats reminded me of New Orleans and Mardi Gras. All the wackiest head gear you can think of and imagine yourself in. Very colourful.

The Dove's Nest Restaurant and Antiques

The Dove's Nest is very popular indeed, not only for its very fine antiques and gifts but also for the adjoining restaurant which was really busy on a weekend.
