Thunderstorms are common during the summer months. They can also appear suddenly. If you are boating out on the lake seek shelter in a protected cove. You don't want to be in the middle of the lake during a storm. Also, the narrow canyons are a dangerous place to be during a storm as they are prone to flash flooding. This goes for on the lake and also in any slot canyon even if it is miles away from the lake.

Summers here are hot! You need to protect yourself by wearing a hat, cap, bandana, whatever. Also slop on that sunscreen. This is especially important if you're out boating with no shade all day. There aren't very many shady spots at any of the beaches, coves, etc. I was once on a trip with a French girl here who went out on a boat all day without sunscreen and she ended up with 2nd degree sun burn. Pretty serious! Take plenty of water with you and drink at least a gallon per day/ per person. This doesn't mean soda or alcohol. These drinks help dehydrate you.
