White House Campground: eat at the White House
There are literally no places to eat close to the White House campground. In fact, there aren't any close to any of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument attractions. Kanab is the closest town of any size in Utah and Page is the biggest town but that's over 30 miles away. When we were out there, gas was well over $4 a gallon so we weren't trotting over to Page every time we had a burger urge.
The campground provides a very peaceful place to have your evening meal with a grand view of not only the Paria Canyon but also desert wildlife going about its very natural business. However, with no running water at the campground you have to be prepared. We had a ten liter plastic water container but since we had picked a camping spot so far from the parking area, it was not worth carrying it out there.
Favorite Dish: Cooking would have been more trouble than it was worth as we'd have to use precious water to clean and then cart the water back to the pit toilets to dispense of it. So, we just used the water for drinking and relied on eating cold dishes for meals. Eating salami & cheese, with baguettes wasn't exactly roughing it. Washing it down with local micro brews as the sun set in the Paria Canyon was heavenly.

Prospector Inn & restaurant: Escalante-Few places to eat in town
It was all good and plenty to satisfy the palate. They get a pretty good crowd at breakfast because not all places are open then in town.
Favorite Dish: The burger with fires and all you can eat salad bar was just what I needed. It more than filled me up without the price setting me back

Kiva Koffehouse: Best View
The view from the restaurant is wonderful, perched as it is above the Escalante river canyon. This is a wonderful place to rest along highway 12.
The building was lovingly made from native materials in the echo of an ancient kiva.
The food is healthy, hearty and earth friendly. Ask for a smoothie to take on the road.
