Blondies ran a close second to Stan's but only because of the harsh overhead lighting and dead quiet - no background tunes - the night we were there. But the food was just fine and the counter staff just as friendly. The menu is also very similar - sammies, salads, soup and a few entrees - and prices won't break the bank either. We both had a sammie: BLT for me, and hot ham-and-cheese for The Husband, and a side of fries. Yes, it IS possible to mess up a BLT but mine was made to perfection with crisp bacon and lettuce and fresh tomato on toasted white. We didn't try the shakes but they're rumored to be scrumptious. This is also a popular stop with road-trippers to Lake Powell, and it gets very decent reviews on Yelp and Trip Advisor. Again, it's not big on fancy, a little worn and faded around the edges, but just fine for a couple of tired and hungry hikers.
I had to chuckle at a couple staying at our motel who headed off to Blondies in posh attire one night. I'm sure the folks manning the counter had a chuckle too.
Stan's was our winner for the best place to full a tummy in Hanksville. It's nothing fancy - a fast-food type outlet attached to the Chevron station - but clean, tidy, friendly and serving area hikers and road-trippers since 1983. This is also where you'll have your complimentary continental breakfast every morning if you're staying next door at Whispering Sands; you'll get a 10% discount on other meals here with your room key.
The menu runs to reasonably priced burgers and sammies - with a few salads and baskets thrown in - and great shakes in a whole bunch of flavors. My chicken wrap was yummy and generous, and The Husband's burger hit the spot as well. The shakes are eat-with-a-spoon thick: we called ours "dinner" one night after a wet and strenuous hike had us too exhausted to manage anything else.
Stan's appears to be a regular stop for boaters traveling to-and-from Lake Powell. No website but they do have a Facebook page: check it for seasonal opening as it looks like they close down for a couple of the winter months.
Blondies is located right in the middle of town. Well, everything is in the middle of town. We went for breakfast and it was very good. We got in just before a rush of peoplre but it seemed they were doing a good job of keeping up.
Next time in the area we'll try them in the evening.
Favorite Dish: I had French Toast, my wife had bacon and eggs. Both were more than good.
Hanksville is a very small town and only has three places to eat. We had one breakfast and two dinners here. The food was good but nothing special. Breakfast is easy and they did a fine job.
Dinner was OK but they were out of one thing or another. We had a young waitress who seemed new at her job, this didn't help things.
I'd go back but most likely would try Blondies for dinner, first.
With no other choice we stopped here for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. Nice cosy setting, friendly family staff and lots of odd little knick-knacks to look at whilst waiting for your meal.
Favorite Dish: Just regualr, but big, burgers, fries or pork chops...but all good food just like mamma makes.
