    The park is formed by erosion. But not only the big rock formations are created this way. There is a lot of evidence of erosion on a smaller scale too.

    Only back home I realised that each stone or combination got a name. Yes, we both were at the north window without noticing it.

    Don't ask me why that name! I think that it is a Navajo idea!

    Sunrise over Monument Valley! Get up early and hurry to the visitors center (no entrance fee that early...). The view is spectacular.

    Here comes the sunset. We were lucky that year - there had been a rather bad thunderstorm (frequent in summer), and the sky took on incredible colours.

    As the sign indicates, Monument Valley is actually on Navajo Land, thus the National Park Service has little say on what goes on here.
