The VIRGIN RIVER has cut deep gorges in the sandstone. This is an area known as 'the narrows' becuase at some points you can reach out and touch both sides of 1,200 foot canyon walls.
Following some of the hiking trails, you will come around some abandoned rustic cabins, this will be you a pretty good idea of how the pioneers used to lived in these areas.
