    Zion Tunnel

    The Zion Tunnel goes through the east side of Zion Canyon. The tunnel goes over 1 mile. It gets very dark when you get towards the center of the tunnel.

    It was like a whole different world after going through the tunnels. The mesas had a sandy yellow look to it. I like this particular mesa which has an interesting texture to it.

    West Temple and canyon wall profiles

    The towering walls of this strip are enclosing when on the inside of the canyons. Views from various distances help keep the area in perspective with the surrounding landscape.

    When you're in a canyon as we were, it seems the sun sets earlier in the evening. The changing light gave this interesting view of one of the Emerald Pools.

    The national park web site lists a huge number of birds to be found within the boundaries of Zion. Most common, however, is the ever-present and noisy Gray Jay.
