For most the year, the Middlebury Farmer's Market is held in the Marble Works each Saturday. As a traveler, you may not be interested in purchasing any fresh produce or cut flowers, but there are things you will enjoy. We always get a cup of coffee, enjoy the scene, try some free samples, and come away with jam, salsa, crafts, or some some other unexpected treasure.

If nothing else, the University Morgan Horse Farm is worth a drive-by viewing. The farm building on their own are beautiful, but throw in some Vermont scenery and the whole event is no-to-be-missed.
If you have more time and an interest in horses, stop for a while. The farm is open most days and guided tours run regularly (see website for exact schedules). Morgan horses, a breed that started here, are beautiful and you will see some of the best!

The college itself is well worth wandering about. It contains some great open spaces, some fantastic old buildings, and some interesting statues. Don't miss the dog catching a frisbee just below Mead Chapel.
Inside the student center, where anyone is welcome, is a great place called The Grille where you can have a beer and sweet potato fries or a smoothie and a cookie while playing pool, lounging in a big comfy chair, listening to a student band or watching a game on the big screen TV.

My first tour of Otter Creek Brewery was with my Middlebury College Microbiology class to learn the details of using yeast to make beer. The worst part is that I wasn't 21 at the time and couldn't partake of the after-tour sampling!
Since then, I have taken the public tour on numerous occasions. The guides are very knowledgable, and the samples are more than worth the time even if the tour isn't your thing...especially if you are old enough to sample!
Then, take a growler of beer home with you!

Middlebury is a quaint village only several blocks long. So it is quite easy to take a stroll along the nice shops, book stores, coffehouses and restaurants. Very cozy New England feel. Not much in this town in terms of variety of restaurants and I counted two bars. But good for a afternoon stroll, especially during the fall season. Beautiful colors abound.

If you are in Middlebury, odds are strong you are in town for a college event. So why not take a tour through the beautiful campus. The colors are especially lovely in the Fall. Middlebury College is a small, private college so one will not get lost walking around. So take a steaming cup of Latte, wear a North Face jacket, and soak in the atmosphere. Don't forget to take your camera, cool architecture abounds.
