Morse Farm Sugar Works

Here's a fun place to visit in the springtime when maple syrup making is in full swing. You can see how they get sap from the trees, collect it and make maple syrup. It's also a source of free samples throughout the year.

This pedestrian street filled to the brim with shops is the heart of Burlington. It's filled with good stores and restaurants. You are also likely to come across a variety of live entertainment here on a summer weekend.

Hiking in the Green Mountains is always good fun. There are hundreds of miles of marked hiking trails in the region, and you never know when you'll happen on to something interest such as the waterfall pictured below.

Get a car -- steal one if you have to -- and head for the open road. You can point the car in any direction and you're sure to find something wonderful to look at. Get yourself a current copy of the official state map from the Highway Department which has the locations of each and every one of the many covered bridges that are a kind of state icon. If you're there in March, stop off at a farm that has some 'sugarbush' -- groves of mape trees -- and have some fresh maple sugar and maybe buy a bottle of real Vermont maple syrup.

This is one of the finest museums specializing in Americana in the country. Built on a country estate that once belonged to the Havermeyer family, there is a huge collection of artefacts from colonial and 19th century America. In the house, you'll find a small, but first-rate collection of Impressionists which have been hung on the walls of rooms which were brought piece by piece from the family's Fifth Avenue apartment.

Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream factory
Ben & Jerry's was founded in 1978 in a renovated gas station in Burlington. They have since moved to a self contained factory in the Green Mountains.

Ben & Jerry's mission involves Product - Finest Quality, Economic - Profitable for shareholders and employees, and Social - Improve the community.

Of late, Ben & Jerry talked about selling their factory and goods to I think Haagen Daz. This upset the employees, as well as the community. Hopefully, this did not happen, because it is one place I always visit when I go to Vermont.

This is a beatiful campus around Burlington. Take some time and walk around the campus and it's facilities. Great old buildings with a classic New England charm. Great time to see the campus would be the fall.

Tasting and visiting the Maple Syrup farms. The busiest season is in early spring, but the farms are open year round.
You get to hike around the area. Most farms are based in the mountains or near them. The people who run the farms are proud of what they do and will be glad to show. Many have nice gift shops to buy syrup, as well as other 'Vermont' gifts.
