Bistro Europa: Great Food & Good Atmosphere

  • When you want to sit down and enjoy a real meal, go to Bistro Europa. I had the best Butternut Squash soup there and a great Wiener Schnitzel. I've had it in Germany and it was almost as good as it is in its original country. The staff is great. There is usually live, but quiet, music playing. I would suggest making reservations.

Wiener Schnitzel -- lightly breaded, with a hint of paprika in the bread. Can be made with veal or pork. I skip the sauce on top, but love a squirt of lemon on top.

Bumblefish Sushi & More: Good enough that we went back, TWICE!
  • Satisfaction:
  • By myjohnson on April 22, 2009

  • I walk by here all the time and I've had their yogurt (really good) but I've never been at lunch or dinner. Well, that changed last week when my friends that me to meet there before we headed to a pub nearby. I was late (usually am!) and they decided to order dinner. When I got there, they just started getting their orders so I ordered a Rainbow Roll and Veggie Deluxe box. Bumblefish is much more affordable than sushi at other restaurants and you know, the quality was surprisingly good. And it's in a rockin' location n Old Town!! Generous, thick cuts of fish topped my Rainbow Roll and the veggie roll was stuffed with seaweed salad and other veggies. For the price, am I crazy to say this is the best sushi? My friends had sushi that was $3.99 and about as good as what I've had down the street on King. My sushi wasn't much more than $3.99. BOTTOM LINE: If you don't want to kick your expensive sushi habit during this economic downturn and you want something casual and fun, Bumblefish is a good choice for the price. Good enough that I've gone back twice in the last 5 days.

Get the Rainbow Roll, super roll with great flavor and it will fill you up! Also, if you like rice get something called STUFFED SOY POCKETS. I can't explain what they are, they were very good though and only $2.99 for three of them.

The sangria was delicious for starters! Everything had plantains in it!

  • Hotel staff recommended this restaurant to us. At first, we were skeptical -- it offers Moroccan food and we weren't familiar with it. Being adventurous, we decided to give it a try, though. Wow!!!

First of all, they do not use traditional seating -- table and chairs. Instead, you sit on the sofa and food is placed on the small table in front of you. They bring a silver pitcher so you can wash your hands. Instead of napkins, you use towels.

For dinner, there are three choices -- you select how many courses you want and eat family-style.

The decorations are breathtaking. Oh, and they offer live music as well as exotic dancing (we didn't stay for dancing).

We skipped lunch and decided to go for seven-course dinner -- soup, salad (four kinds, actually), appetizer (huge pastry), two entrees -- we ordered chicken with dates and lamb with chick peas, dessert pastries, and mint tea. All for $21.95 per person. Yes, it sounds expensive. However, it's a LOT of food and surroundings are gorgeous.

  • The best minestrone soup. Love the basket of bread sticks and assorted breads. Tiramisu is also wonderful.

The minestrone soup! Everything I've had here is good but I always end up coming back to the soup.

Few choices, here they are: 24-Hour Dining

  • Alexandria is not exactly a late night town. For 24-hour fare, try IHOP (Duke St W of I-395; and US 1 in Potomac Yards S of Crystal City, W of DCA Airport) and the Alexandria Diner (US 1 S of I-495). Late night choices include Four Seasons Diner, PIckett & Van Dorn; Silver Diner, SR644 E of I-95 in Springfield; Krispy Kreme (US 1 2 mi S of I-495). Not recommended: Denny's (Edsall Rd E of I-395), Ranch House (US 1 2 mi S of I-495).

  • Not many choices given the price, but what they have might be okay. you can go to some other Chinese buffets in Alexandria or Arlington with many more choices and better quality too. For example, green olive or bamboo buffet... and the sushi there is pretty low quality. Service is limited.
I definitely won't go there again

  • This is an "all-you-can-eat" buffet offering over 65 items daily.

For my appetizer, I had Fried Calamari, Pork Dim Sum and Pork Egg Roll. For dinner, I had Fried Chicken, Sesame Chicken, Fried Calamari, Vegetable Fried Rice, Mushrooms with Beef, Beef and Broccoli and Shrimp Roll.

  • It was my first experience at having tapas.......but an enjoyeable one. The waiter was more than willing to assist with any questions. Just rattle off a few numbers off the menu and give it a try!

  • This is a great place to pitch up to after a day of walking around and shopping in Old Alexandria. They serve authentic Spanish tapas and meals, to include about 7 variations on paella. They have a few outdoor tables on King street to foster that European ambiance. Also, they have live Spanish entertainment from time to time. After dinner, you can head across the road to a great Irish pub called Murphy's.

I really enjoyed the chorizo tapas. They do it with an apple-based sauce which kind of threw me at first but really impressed me when I started into the dish. Also, any paella on the menu is phenominal.
