Hickory Creek Antiques is a mall of over 30 vendors at the Ashland Town Center shopping centre just west of downtown Ashland.
What to buy: They offer furniture, advertising items (e.g. old "Coca-Cola" signs), framed prints, retro kitchen furniture, old cookbooks, baseball cards, toys, and games. My friend Lee was in search of a sturdy table or shelves to hold his wine chiller. He settled on a vintage sewing table complete with wrought iron foot press.

Cross Brothers Grocery has been here since 1912 and the family-operated business is still known for its personal touch. It is still owned by the Cross family. They still provide home delivery and charge accounts. There are old photos and antique grocery equipment in the back. Cross Brothers has such a reputation for being the old neighbourhood store that people from Mechanicsville, who recently lost Mills Market to the national chains, drive the 17 miles (27 km.) to shop here. Because Ashland conscientiously makes an effort to hold onto its old downtown, I am optimistic that Cross Brothers is here to stay.

Normally, Wal-Mart Supercentres are stand-alone entities, but this one in Ashland, just off Route 54 has a fairly good-sized strip mall with it. Among the stores at this shopping centre are Cato's, Brick Oven Pizza, Dollar Tree, Shoe Show, Friedrich's Jewelers, and a cash advance centre. An odd thing about this Wal-Mart Supercentre is that many Ashlanders opposed it such that when it did open, they boycotted THIS store, but go down the road to Mechanicsville or Richmond's northside to shop at other Wal-Marts.

Ashland Hanover is a strip mall conveniently located just off Interstate 95. Among the chief tenants are Big Lots, Ukrop's, A & N, Anthony's Pizza, Tuesday Morning (gifts), General Nutrition Center, Postnet, etc. and the El Azteca Mexican Restaurant is across the parking lot.
What to buy: Discount items, apparel, sportwear, gifts, health food, mailing and packaging, and various restaurants are available here.
What to pay: This being a run-of-the mill strip mall with discount stores, you probably won't be out much.
