The nearest commercial airport to Blacksburg is in Roanoke, which is about 40 miles east of Blacksburg. The Roanoke airport is a very nice facility, with a snackbar, newsstand and small bookstore. There are direct flights to and from New York, Philadelphia, Washington DC, Charlotte, Atlanta, Detroit, Cincinnati, and Chicago. Rental cars are available from Hertz, Avis, National, and Budget. To get from the airport to Blacksburg, the easiest way is to rent a car and drive. Taxis are available, but will cost around $70 each way.
To drive from the airport to Blacksburg, exit the airport and follow the signs to Interstate 581 North. Take 581 to Interstate 81 South. Follow 81 to Exit 118 (Blacksburg/Christiansburg/Virginia Tech). At Exit 118, follow the signs to Blacksburg and get onto US 460, which then takes you to Blacksburg. To enter the town you will have two choices from US 460. If you want to go to downtown Blacksburg, take the Business 460 exit off of US 460 and follow Business 460 into town. If you want to go to VIrginia Tech, stay on US 460 until the Prices Fork Road exit, and then take Prices Fork Road toward Blacksburg. The college will be on your right.
Blacksburg is located just off of Interstate 81 in southwestern Virginia. To reach Blacksburg, take Exit 118 off of Interstate 81, where you will get onto US Route 460 north to Blacksburg. After a few miles, you will have a choice to exit off onto Business 460, which takes you into downtown Blacksburg. If you are headed to the Virginia Tech campus stay on US 460 until the Prices Fork Road exit. Prices Fork Road will take you by the back of the Virginia Tech campus.
