Façade of the restaurant by schuminweb The Hardware Store, along with the restaurant, also contains shops, all in a historic building that originally was a hardware store, hence the name. The food, the atmosphere, and the service are great. Stop by for lunch and savor their sandwiches. Also don't forget to have a bowl of peanut soup!

by elunardi Intimate atmosphere, the interior of an old-time hardware store has been transformed into a warm, cozy place to eat and meet. Also located in the building is a candy store, a jewelry store, & a bookstore. There is also an art gallery upstairs. Inside the restaurant, the walls are lined with old pictures of Charlottesville and local historical memorabilia. The menu is extensive and ranges from typical diner food to more interesting items like the salad that I love.

Charlottesville has it's share of the restaurants you'll find in any American town - Outback and so on. Wood Grill Buffet on Route 29 north of town is the best buffet; Duner's on 250 West is reputed the best fine cuisine; Crozet Pizza further west has the best pizza. There are lots of good smaller restaurants too, on the Corner near the University and downtown on Main Street. Others are further outside of town, as for example the German restaurants Bavarian Chef near Madison and Edelweis near Staunton, both very good. You won't run out of choices. There is some really high-faluting food in Charlottesville, but we enjoyed one of the simple, funky cafes near the University of Virginia campus. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

And yet most of our party had seafood! The Aberdeen Bar isn't the cheapest place in town and it has a decided 1980s feeling to it but the food was certainly good and there was plenty of it. We had a business group here so we had an entire room to ourselves. The service was excellent and very patient with us, given that we had stragglers who came in (arriving on late flights) after everyone else had finished. Although beef is the specialty of the house, there are some excellent seafood options. Everything was prepared well and nobody left hungry.
The little croutons in the baskets of breadsticks were amazingly good. They were so savery that we fought over them. The little tub of spreadable cheese was a nice addition as well. I opted for a local cabernet that was delicious. Unfortunately I just asked for what someone else had ordered so I don't know who the vintner was. There are a number of local wineries in Charlottesville. Leave a Comment

The first time we ate here were enjoyed the margarita's, shrimp enchiladas, and Mexican plate. Waitress was very friendly & food was exceptional. We went back & found the margarita's barely palatable, dinner ordinary & the restaurant sooo smokey. Yes, smoking is allowed in Restaurants in Virginia; I was amazed that so many people still smoke. Third year, totally by accident, I suddenly realized that my favorite bar was a restaurant during the day! Crazy! Seriously though, Buddhist and Michael's Bistro are the two decent places to eat on the corner. Don't get me wrong, we've all eaten at the College Inn. But that's just food. Buddhist will offer you a meal. And if you have a late dinner, you can just join the bar crowd that will start filtering in around 11. By 12:30, the place will be packed! Tip well, they have excellent wait staff here.
Actually my FAVORITE dish is the beer. Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/InternationalPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Elliewood AveDirections: The CornerWebsite: (434)971-9181

Not fine dining, but still great food, specializing in Greek and Mediterrenean fare. They also have great sandwiches.
Ask anyone in town where to get the best Tomato Basil soup and this is the answer you'll get. Its that good. In fact, when someone says "Cafe Europa" I get an image of a bowl of Tomato Basil soup. Mmmm.... When i want something more than soup, I love love love their Chicken Souvlaki. Soooo good.
