My wife and I spent a wonderful Valentine's weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip was our gourmet meal at Barboursville Vineyards' Palladio Restaurant. It is first-rate with good wine and fantastic food, as well as great service. It is somewhat of a suit-and-tie place and is in the middle of nowhere. But you won't regret it for a romantic dinner! If you want soup, this is your place! They offer a number of different soups every day--one is sure to tickle your fancy. I've heard some say its hit or miss, but I've always had a hit when I ate here. I've been eating at this resturant scince I was able to eat solids; and I still love it. They make their pizza in a brick oven , and it tase like no other pizza in Charlottesville. This resturant is totaly family run and you can tell as soon as you walk in that its totaly comunity based. If you were only in Charlottesville one night, go to Sal's and if it's warm sit outside and watch the world go by as you enjoy wonderfull food and soak up the ambience of charlottesville.
Pizza , no doubt. Scicilain pizza, made by true scicillians. Nothing like it. Theme: ItalianComparison: about averageAddress: 221 East Market Street, Charlottesville, VA 22902Phone: +1 (434) 295-8484Directions: north downtown mall

One of many microbrews I have visited in my travels. Went here as on Tuesdays they have two dollar pints. Parking was a bit hard and went to a local parking garage. The brewery does not validate but it only cost 1 dollar an hour. The service was terrible and even though my wife is a waitress leff in the low single digits. The only help we got was when we bugged who I judge was a manager of the place. The beer was good and the food went down well but bad service leaves a bad taste in my wife. Even two dollar beers could not keep me here any longer. It would also be nice if they validated as the parking lot out front filled up quickly.
Cannot even remember what I ate. The beers went from dark to light and were above average for microbrews. Would like to have tried more but was tired of waiting to not get served. A complete opposite experience than at south street as our server who actually cooks most days was excellent. The food was reasonable price as on Monday they had a two course meal for 7 dollars and classes of sangria for one dollar. The decor would fit right in with a bed and breakfast for non smokers and a diner in the smoking/bar area. Later in the night they had music which we were too tired to enjoy after the lunch drive.
The sides were excellent and you coudl make a meal out of it like my wife did. The beans were well cooked the rice aromatic and the beans tasted fresh. My fish was also very good especially for only 7 dollars which is not much more than a Mcdonald's meal. This is one of the worst dining experiences I have ever had. The food and wine were very good, but the service was so horrible we did not leave a tip. Our server rolled her eyes and was visibly annoyed when we asked about our food after waiting almost 2 hours politely. She also blamed us for not telling her earlier that we had a concert to attend later and needed to speed things along. I wrote a very reasonable email to the restaurant about the problems we had and never received a response, so as a result we are never going back. The blue light grill is very trendy looking with a great raw bar. The fish was wonderful. I had the halibut and my wife had the salmon. They were both wonderful. The service was great. The dress was suprisingly casual but we later found that Charlottesville is a pretty casual city.
The house oysters were incredibly fresh. Leave a Comment

This restaurant is in all the guidebooks, and for good reason. They have an excellent menu of nightly specials, almost all with a french/continental flair, however, they love to experiment! And almost all of their experiments are successful! There are three different seating areas, each with their own mood. Upstairs is a quiet dining room. The main floor is a relaxed but jovial atmosphere. The bar downstairs can get downright boisterous! Have had many fun meals here.
Everything is excellent. I like the chinois steak from the regular menu, but have a friend who only orders the game selections, which he says are fantastic. Okay, so they have fish too, but I can't eat fish, so I've never been tempted. This place serves EXCELLENT steaks--great flavor!!! This is one of those places where everyone gets their own cut of beef, and then you share the veggies and sides. I suggest the mashed potatoes, onion rings, and asparagus! The iceberg wedge salad qith roquefort dressing (better than the balsamic) is to die for, and I hate iceberg... And you're missing out if you don't get a (few) bottle(s) of a good red wine to complement your meal. God, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it...
