I was sure that tickets to Monticello were sold in Monticello Visitors Center located a few miles from the house of Thomas Jefferson. The center was opened from 9 am, so I was about that time at place. I was wrong, the tickets were sold in the ticket office located a few miles up, by huge parking lot and it was opened from 8 am. I should come 1 hour earlier to avoid a line to guided Jefferson's house tour.

The approximate waiting time is given on a table in the ticket office. We paid 13$ per ticket and got in a shuttle which took us to the Jefferson's house on the mountain top. We had to wait over 30 min. to enter the house although it was written 15-20 min. Never mind, while Urszula was waiting, I enjoyed landscapes (a bit foggy that day), fall trees and flowers. I had a nice chat with a couple from Michigan as well.

One more warning: the parking lots are huge, try to remember when you leave your car. And do not take any large bags. No bags or backpacks exceeding 11" by 15" by 4" are allowed beyond the Shuttle Station.

I found a lot of pretty copper (a reddish-coloured metal) and brass (alloy of copper and zinc) cookware both in the kithen of the Jefferson's house and in gift stores at Monticello.

Do look at them, do buy them if you like but please never use them for preparing or cooking any food unless you want to catch copper toxicity syndrome. The most common symptoms are headaches, fatigue, insomnia, depression, spaciness, learning disorders or premenstrual syndrome. Brrr...

Some folks told me that both Hillary Clinton and Theresa Heinz-Kerry use copper and brass cookware in their kitchens. Hmm... I don't know :-).

  • Charlottesville is an extremely safe town. Don't hang around the railroad tracks in the middle of the night and you'll be fine.
