    Beautiful Land Across the Water

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: Depending on what time of year you visit you will need a wind breaker and good walking shoes. If it is late Fall or Winter you will need a heavy coat, hat and gloves. Spring and Early Fall a medium weight jacket will do. Summer you can be in shirtsleeves, lightweight slacks or shorts. Barefoot is nice but water walkers or a sandal or "trainers" (tennis shoes) will suffice. A hat or visor to block the sun.

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Make sure you have sunscreen (no matter what time of year), chap stick like Blistex or my favorite Rosebud Lip Balm, sunglasses, bug repellant and an anti-itch lotion (Calamine or Benadryl lotion). Aloe vera gel is a favorite after sun remedy.

Photo Equipment: YES! Bring your camera gear, disposible, 35mm film or digital. Make sure you have batteries and extra memory cards for the digital ones.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: Binoculars, beach chairs and bicycles are great to have. The bed and breakfast we stayed in offered these items for free during our stay.

    Miscellaneous: Weather recording: 1 757 824 2291
    Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce: 1 757 336 6161

    Packing List

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

Luggage and bags: A backpack is probably best, but if you are going to be there for more than a day, and plan to vacation there, you can pack whatever you are comfortable with.

Clothing/Shoes/Weather Gear: An umbrella, walking shoes or sandals, and light clothing should take care of you during the summer, though be prepared for quick weather changes, as you are along the Atlantic Ocean

Toiletries and Medical Supplies: Bug repellant and suntan lotion are essential. Also make sure you have what you need--whether it be water, food or other supplies before going through to the refuge and Assateague Island. You can't buy anything there.

Photo Equipment: You can find what you need, albeit at inflated prices, while you are in Chincoteague, but be sure you have plenty of film and a backup battery to make things easier on yourself.

Camping/Beach/Outdoor Gear: You can't stay overnight on the beach, but you're quite close if you're staying in Chincoteague. There are plenty of places to stay, but book early if you are going to see the famous pony swim.

Miscellaneous: Check out the website for much more information and photographs of the area.
