The Shrimp 'n Suds Feast is sponsored by the Hanover County Rotary Club to benefit local youth and family charities. (For those from Roxboro, suds means beer. It isn't a party for short people and a car wash.) The mid-May annual event is at the King's Dominion Pavilion. It features spiced shrimp, beer, soft drinks, and live music. You never can tell, sometimes local dignitaries will attend like in 2007 when all three candidates for Hanover County Commonwealth's Attorney were there. I don't drink beer, but there was plenty of it. The beer comes in a large truck with taps on the side. I have never heard of them running out of beer in the 25 years they have had the event. The shrimp was in great abundance as well. Spiced shrimp isn't my favourite style of shrimp: I like it fried. I declined the side dishes (coleslaw and potato salad) because they contain mayonnaise, on which I am not keen. The bread was good, though. This less of a culinary outing than an event for folks to "booze and schmooze"- rather like the shad planking, but with shrimp. The live music was pretty good, but I would have preferred a bluegrass band. Gates are open from 4:30-8pm and they serve shrimp from 6:15-7. Tickets are $25 a pop, but it all goes to a good cause.

All over the park, but especially in Hanna-Barbera land, cartoon characters look to meet and entertain kids. In the photo, my brother takes advantage of a photo op with Yogi Bear.
