I would recommend not staying..., Hillsville

brandonc4x4 Says:  I would recommend not staying in the Hills motel. It is a rat trap that has managed, miracuously, for many years. If you want an STD, stay there. Otherwise, there is a plethora of hotels at the interstate: Best Western, Holiday Inn Express, Fairfield Inn, and Comfort Inn...

Rio Grande: This food is the best available anywhere!

Rio Grande is a wonderful place to eat...
The atmosphere is the best! It is very clean and the waiters are very nice and courteous. The chips and salsa cannot be beat, as well as the food. You receive large quantites of the food you order and the service is great. I can't say enough good things about this business. I am a local and I eat there numerous times each week. My entire family loves Rio Grande!

Favorite Dish: I love the jumbo burrito, which comes with either beef or chicken or just beans if you want, and rice if you want....lots of fresh shredded lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream, cheese. I always get them to add some cheese dip to mine, drizzeled over the top....ummm. Also, I love the grilled chicken which is cooked with goya seasoning...it is delicious, as is their fahitas....I have tried alot of their foods and so far, I love them all. The chips and salsa are brought to the table complimentary while you wait for your food to be prepared fresh. It is delicious!

Local Customs

Listen for the Music

In spite of the previous cultural comment left by a bored teen, HIllsville shares in the rich culture of the Appalachian Mountains. The music and dancing reflect its settlement by English and Scots-Irish in the late 18th century. Handicrafts born of long years of mountain isolation still thrive in the area, and the people are both friendly and helpful. PIck up a CD of local music or buy a beautiful, practical handcrafted item. And do come back and see us again.

There is only one thing to...

There is only one thing to know about Hillsville: it has no culture. Unless you consider Hickish a kind of culture. If you walk in a restaurant wearing sweat pants (or no pants at all), a ragged t-shirt, and haven't bathed in a week, you ARE the culture.
