Virginia has four definite seasons, so what you pack is reflected by what season you travel. Comfortable shoes is always a must.
Travel-sized insect repellent is good to have on hand any time of the year.
AH! Depending on what you want to preserve, I actually recommend both a good 35mm camera and a camcorder if you have one. 400iso is great for most photos, though I always have 800iso on hand for good stop action shots along the way. Leave a Comment

Bring a swimsuit. sunscreen, and a hat.
Bring aloe and noxema, in case of sunburn.
Bring your camera
If you have small children, especially babies, bring a small camping tent. It will block out the sun, sand, and wind. BELIEVE me, they work!! Leave a Comment

We travelled by plane and car so a medium suitcase was fine. Make sure you pack enough underwear for two days in your carry on bag
If you going in the summer make sure your clothing is cotton, silk or other natural fibres. It's very humid. We were there in June and temperatures were in the high 90s. Of course most places are air conditioned but who wants to stay indoors.
Nothing special. There are many malls where you can get something you've forgotten.
I took an ordinaryRichoh cmera. Had no problem getting film or batteries.

We have a whole series of good guides we use when we travel to various parts of the country. We also pick up a lot of literature and maps from the welcome stations. The Delorme series is one of the better sets of maps, guides and lists of places to see. You woud be well advised to pop one in your trunk for use this year.

Don't take as much luggage as I had unless you move to Virginia. You may want after visit.
Depends on a season. Virginia is warmer than lowland part of Germany or Poland but not much :-). There are more rains as well (it's Atlantic state). Check: 24-hr Average Temperature in Richmond Average Rainfall in Richmond 10 Day Forecast for Richmond
Good camera with good flash (historical interiors) and plenty of films or memory cards. For night photography (it's getting dark early in fall) and for caverns of Blue Ridge Mountains take a tripod.
Bring enough $$$$$ and good credit cards. Virginia deserves it. Well, it's not highly taxed California with parking space for $40 in San Francisco but there are many tourist attractions which may cost a lot. I paid $90 for 2 to enter collonial Williamsburg. But it's worth that money :-)! Leave a Comment
