by gipper84 Sheldon's is a family style restaurant in Keysville, about 2 miles off Route 360. The restaurant looks like a wooden ranch house with a wraparound front porch. The food is worth the detour from the main highway and the service is friendly. The funny thing was Nat wasn't with me. I ate here in May, 2006 with Jessi and my fellow baseball coach on the way back from Martinsville and I came to find out that Mr. Southside has never eaten here.
They are known more for their flat iron steaks, but I had $9.99 the all-you-can-eat buffet which offered American comfort foods such as barbecue, ham, chicken, meat loaf, and a wide selection of cooked and raw vegetables. I have a couple of glutton friends who would really like this. You on VT already know one of them... I liked the buffet, but it really didn't stand out. It was similar to one at a truck stop close to home. I'm sure I might have been more impressed if I had ordered something from the menu. Nat and I might stop here on the way to Clarksville or Virgilina. Providence Forge, or anywhere in New Kent County, for that matter, isn't the first place that comes to mind when you think of Italian food. Luca's Italian Restaurant doesn't look Italian from the outside despite the red, white, and green sign. In fact, it's a struggle to find it even on Route 60 east. The key landmark to look for is a shopping centre with a Food Lion cattywampus from it. The New Kent Republicans were allocated a portion of the restaurant one Saturday morning when the lieutenant governor and the local delegate were there to speak. Being an Italian restaurant, I was expecting maybe biscotti and coffee for breakfast. However, it was a more americanised buffet-style breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage, grits, and breakfast potatoes. With the lieutenant governor and the local delegate as guest speakers, some folks almost had to be turned away because, this time, there was no patio to accommodate the overflow.
I had everything but the scrambled eggs and the fruit salad. Normally, they serve pizza, subs, spaghetti, lasagna, soups, salads, and wings. All their food is prepared on the premises from authentic Italian recipes. en espaņol, em portuguęs Leave a Comment Theme: ItalianPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 9311 Pocohantas Trail, Providence Forge, VA 23140Phone: (804) 966-7800Directions: From I-64: Get off on exit 205 to New Kent Highway. Lee and I had intended to eat supper at Sheldon's in Keysville. Due to our later than planned departure, we were dodgy on whether we would make Keysville before their 9pm closing. We had just made Amelia by 8. Despite having a late lunch, I was getting hungry, so Lee and I reluctantly postponed Sheldon's until another trip to Southside. Buster's is a steakhouse, bar, and grill on route 360 in Amelia. The service is first-rate and the atmosphere is what you would expect of a roadhouse in rural Virginia. en espaņol, em portuguęs, en franįais
I had the barbecue sandwich with fries. The barbecue was pretty good in a vinegar based sauce (certainly better than the tomato based sauce from a tin at Buddy's Place down the street), but the fries were a little flat. Angelo's Pizza by b1bob Lee, Christian, and I stopped in here just for drinks as our Northern Neck tour brought us through Montross. Angelo's is a very plain looking pizzeria in a town so small that I was bumfuzzled it even had one. Lee had sweet tea (surprise, surprise), Christian had coffee, and I just had water. We lingered a lot here. Had we taken our drinks and left straightaway, we might have just made Stratford Hall (Robert E. Lee's birthplace) before its 4pm closing. en espaņol, em portuguęs Leave a Comment Theme: PizzaPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 15835 Kings Highway, Montross, VA 22520Phone: (804) 493-8694Directions: Along Route 3, the town's main drag.

Awful Arthur's is a restaurant with three locations in Virginia, two in Roanoke, one in Mechanicsville. The restaurant has the air of being on a ship right down to the hard wooden bench booths. The good thing about the decor is there were ship's lights at every booth. The wait staff was very friendly and attentive. However, I had to wait an awfully long time for my food when there wasn't much of a crowd there. The food was well-prepared and fresh and the portions were almost big enough to ask for a takeway box. However, for a comparable price for seafood in Mechanicsville, I'd recommend Calabash.
For an appetiser, I had the crab and artichoke dip which consists of artichoke hearts, crab meat, herbs and spices blended with cream cheese, then oven roasted and paired with warm bread sticks. The bread sticks weren't bad, but the artichoke dip was terrible. All entrees are served with a house salad, hush puppies, vegetable, and your choice of potato or pasta. Good salads at restaurants are hard to find and Awful Arthur's is no exception. It is dominated by dark green lettuce together with the token carrots, cucumbers, and tomato. The hush puppies were great. My only complaint was that there were only two. The vegetable of the day, which the waitress would not volunteer, was green beans. This was the worst lot of green beans I've ever had! Would it have killed them to toss in a little fatback? The fries would have been good if they had not been dominated by seafood seasoning. I had the Awful Platter which consisted of two kinds of seafood; I chose the shrimp and scallops. They are prepared grilled, blackened, broiled or fried. I wanted mine fried. The scallops were great and the shrimp were average (too much breading). To sum up, Awful Arthur's wasn't awful, but the food does need work. en espaņol, em portuguęs Leave a Comment

The Trawler Restaurant by b1bob The Trawler is a fine seafood restaurant in the little Eastern Shore town of Exmore. Although my boss was paying at this trip, I noticed it was a little pricey. However, the food and service were good, and the portions were plentiful.

Country Cookin' by b1bob Country Cookin' is a small chain of country style American restaurants in Southwestern Virginia. They offer copious food for the low price. Lunch prices range from $4-6 and supper is only slightly higher. My supper cost only $5.99- even less than LUNCH earlier that day at Applebee's. All meals come with salad, vegetable, dessert and sundae bars.
At both the northwest Roanoke and the Bedford locations, I had grilled liver & onions with baked potato and fries. Macado's by b1bob I was here on business awhile back and my client, colleagues and I took supper here. Macado's is a regional chain of American-style restaurants on a par with T.G.I. Friday's. This chain can be found as far east as Farmville, Virginia; as far west as Beckley, West Virginia; and as far south as Boone, North Carolina. The vast preponderence of them are located in Southwest Virginia.
I took the southwestern grilled chicken, but you can decide what you want before you go by clicking onto the menu. Leave a Comment Theme: AmericanPrice: US$11-20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: 120 Church Ave. SW, Roanoke, VA 24011

This is how a tyical outlet looks from outside by Faiza-Ifrah, 1 more photos By Ifrah: When mom and dad saw the board for Long John Silver's in Harrisonburg, they were delighted. They used to eat at a outlet in Skokie, Illinois a lot. We were not skeptical, but we found the food delicious. Now my USA friends may think that it is one of those common fast food chains so why bother writing about it. But the thing is that this chain does not exist in Canada so it was rather new for me and my brother. This is a fast food restaurant with a nice revolutionary theme - seafood. The inside has a decor of a ship (see picture # 2).
We found the following to be a wholesome and delicious meal: VARIETY PLATTERS → 2 Fish & 8 Shrimp → 2 Fish, 4 Shrimp, & Chicken PlanksŪ → 2 Fish, 4 Shrimp & Clams → 2 Fish & 3 Chicken PlanksŪ Leave a Comment Theme: SeafoodPrice: less than US$10 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveDirections: Harrisonburg on route 33, immediately east of I 81 exit.
