Macado's: Macado's

by b1bob

I was here on business awhile back and my client, colleagues and I took supper here. Macado's is a regional chain of American-style restaurants on a par with T.G.I. Friday's. This chain can be found as far east as Farmville, Virginia; as far west as Beckley, West Virginia; and as far south as Boone, North Carolina. The vast preponderence of them are located in Southwest Virginia. I took the southwestern grilled chicken, but you can decide what you want before you go by clicking onto the menu.

The Trawler: Fine Eastern Shore seafood

by b1bob

The Trawler is a fine seafood restaurant in the little Eastern Shore town of Exmore. Although my boss was paying at this trip, I noticed it was a little pricey. However, the food and service were good, and the portions were plentiful. Fried shrimp, baked potato and salad.

Millers: Dave Matthews Fan Alert

by Rhondaj

Millers is located in Charlottesville Historic Downtown Mall. This outdoor walking mall doesn't seem so big. Maybe I'm a jaded shopper... Anyway we were looking for an outdoor cafe that could fit 13 people. No go. So wound up eating inside the darkened Millers. Pub kind of place. Found out though that Dave Matthews worked here before he hit the big time. ooh... I had a stuffed baked potato. Which was puny! But at least they used real bacon and not 'bacon bits!' Everyone else liked their sandwich fares. I was the only dissatisfied customer this go round...

by Pamela_Peace

The restaurant at the Homestead is one of the BEST! I was privileged to attend a cooking session by Chef Schnarwyler and it was quite a production. Sweet Red Pepper Soup: 6 red bellpeppers, 1 quart heavy cream, sea salt.Split peppers in half & remove seeds, cut into quarters & place in pot with cream. Simmer 15 min. then blend in food processor. Add salt to taste. Return to stove and heat to simmer. Sprinkle with chopped chives, or add lump crabmeat if desired. Bon Appetit!

by Eseg

Northern VA and Washington are awash with great restaurants. Visit Jaleo on 7th Street for Spanish tapas and the trendiest atmosphere in the city. Senses in Georgetown is truly romantic (best pastry chef in town), as well as Bellisimo in Fairfax. Dupont Circle bistros hop during lunch. If you haven't tried overdozing on Spanish tapas and washing them down with good Riojas, then you still have some living to do. The French/American fares at Senses come to life during every meal, and their pastries are out of this world.

by Lulu-Girl

Strawberry Street Cafe *and* Su Casa. They are actually located very close to one another. Strawberry St Cafe offers their famous 'bathtub' salad bar. Great, great salad bar, very fresh, and about 8 dollars for unlimited salad and soup. Yum.Su Casa is the best little Mexican restaurant in town. Terrific potato and cheese quesidillas (sp?) with beans and rice for about five dollars.

J.M. Randalls - Williamsburg's Home of the BluesI am mentioning this particular restaurant, because it was the one of the few we visited while there...(Since our villa had a full kitchen, we ate in most nights) Good simple food, (usual dishes, like a TG Fridays), but fun atmosphere....Good atmosphere...Prices were typical....On the weekends is when the places really comes alive, beginning with Thursday, Unfortunately, we were so exhausted every night, that we did not make it to their live Jazz show....But the next time we will for sure.. Great Buffalo Wings!

There are several nice places to eat in Abingdon that are unique to the area. I personally recommend Alison's Restaurant, The Peppermill, The Starving Artist or The Hardware. All of these restaurants are individually unique and offer something differnt.Alison's is a quaint little casual restaurant that is small and personal. The Peppermill and The Straving Artist offer more of a 'dressy' atmosphere but still small and personal. The Hardware is a large restaurant and pretty much any type clothing goes. At Alison's you must try the baked potato soup- it is the best you will find anywhere! At The Peppermill I recommend the calamari- they also have excellent potato chowder. The Hardware is a nice place to go first for dinner and then to the back bar for drinks. My favorite menu item here is sesame chicken!

In Waynesboro, you must have lunch at the Purple Foot, a lunch only restaurant, wine shop and photo gallery. The South River restraurant right off exit 94 of I-64 is a good bet as well. The owner, Erwin Bohmfalk, is a world traveller and a world-class photographer. While enjoying a gourmet lunch, you can scan the walls covered with photos of his latest adventure, including Antarctica, Africa, Mongolia, Russia above the Arctic Circle, and many more exciting places. My favorite from the Purple Foot is the Irish Dream. It is a baked potato with turkey, ham, green peppers, onion, and melted cheese, topped with sour cream. Combine that with your favorite wine or a mug of locally-made Dominion Ale, and you have a great lunch.
