Byrd Theatre by b1bob The Byrd Theatre in Carytown was built in the 1920s. The movie house still has its original red velvet drapes, crystal chandelier and an organ that rises out of the stage. The only bummer is that the seats are small and there isn't much leg room but the ambience of this old-time movie house makes it worth that minor inconvenience. The Byrd shows second-run films, so don't turn up expecting to catch the latest release. The good news, however, is that fact that you'll only pay $1.99 for one of the best movie experiences in town. Its location in Carytown puts it a stone's throw from various eateries of all price ranges, so you can make an entire night of it.
Shirt and shoes is the only thing they're probably asking at the Byrd, but if you're bringing a date, I wouldn't go dressed like a bum. Leave a Comment Theme: Theater

by Hopkid The Byrd Theater is a wonderful old theater built during the golden age of cinema in the U.S. It opened in 1928 and showed first run movies from then until recently when it was converted to an affordable movie option, showing current movies on their way out of town. Seats are only $1.99 except for the Saturday midnight Madness movies that are $5 and very popular (The Princess Bride, Resident Evil, The Goonies, and others are typical cult films shown). And on Saturday evenings there is the additional treat when the fire up the original Wurlitzer organ for a few tunes before the previews. If you've never heard a Wurlitzer then you just haven't lived!

by gipper84 The Byrd theater is really an important part of the vibrant Carytown experince. This theater has been around for a very long time, and it becomes very apparent from the exterior of the theater. The movies are usually already out of the normal theater but have not yet come to DVD or VHS, which makes it pretty nice if you can hold off when the movie first comes out and watch it. The normal movies play during the day and cost about a $1.50 or $2. On Friday and Saturday nights you can go to the midnight movie, which is usually a very old movie, but one that is pretty popular. The midnight movie that I had the good fortune of watching was the original Jaws, which I had never seen in theater. Seeing it in theater especially at the Byrd was a very neat experience, because it added more suspense to the already nerve racking movie. The theater is old, but the screen is still in really good shape and so is the inside of the theater. The seats are pretty comfortable and overall for an older theater it kind of grows on you, especially since it is cheap. Leave a Comment Theme: Theater
